Every coach is on a leash outside of the elite guys. Basically, when will Benson and co have seen enough.
What exactly has Monty proved?

Just think about the lack of stability and roster shake up since Monty has been here. I suggest that the guy deserves another year or two to see how he handles things now that we have that stability and cap room.

What has he proved?
Probably not much since he's a very young coach who was dealt a bad hand due to the CP3/Eric Gordon debacle...
His ability to develop players like Jason Smith and Vasquez can not be overlooked. That gives me hope that he'll be able to develop Rivers, Davis, Miller, and other draft picks.
I'm not sure what you're expecting but I find that it's hard to find a head coach who would be willing to develop and grow a team from the bottom up. Williams might not be the answer in the long run but I am not going to judge him based on this or last season. I'd ideally wait until the team is a little more established before we're able to see the extent of his abilities.
