Benson seemed to think he was Benson's first choice.
Oh, you are taking the Shinn / Bower point of view. Got it.

What are your thoughts on Monty's "leash"? How long does he get?
I was actually a Monty supporter, but he's been rubbing me the wrong way lately. I'd love to see a guy like Patrick Ewing get an opportunity here.

Why would he be placed in a leash? Everyone in the organization understands that the team is young and would struggle especially early in the season. Then Gordon suffered a setback and all expectations went down the pipes.
You may not agree with some of his decisions and the plays he draws up at times, but that's something he'll learn with time and experience with his players and their abilities.
We are 2-3 with Gordon back in the line up, as long as the team continues to grow and improve, I don't see why people continue to be on his case.

He should have gotten the Bobcats job. No way he can be worse than the cheap hire MJ made.

I think he's fine this season. I think he's fine next season. I think things would have to be pretty bad off for him to be ousted before the 2014/2015 season.
During that season, I think results will be expected. If this team isn't `contending' by whatever definition The Empire chooses to apply through the season and going into the next, both DD and MW will we gone, maybe during the season.
This is largely driven by my interpretation of the team's salary picture, the timeline set up by Davis' contract, and the (I think related) length of Monty's contract.
Your thoughts?

Every coach is on a leash outside of the elite guys. Basically, when will Benson and co have seen enough.
What exactly has Monty proved?

Just think about the lack of stability and roster shake up since Monty has been here. I suggest that the guy deserves another year or two to see how he handles things now that we have that stability and cap room.

What has he proved?
Probably not much since he's a very young coach who was dealt a bad hand due to the CP3/Eric Gordon debacle...
His ability to develop players like Jason Smith and Vasquez can not be overlooked. That gives me hope that he'll be able to develop Rivers, Davis, Miller, and other draft picks.
I'm not sure what you're expecting but I find that it's hard to find a head coach who would be willing to develop and grow a team from the bottom up. Williams might not be the answer in the long run but I am not going to judge him based on this or last season. I'd ideally wait until the team is a little more established before we're able to see the extent of his abilities.

Oh . . . so you're one of those guys who uses your common sense, eh?

So he hasn't proven anything? It's ok to say it considering the talent he has had.
Developing Smith and Vazquez is what he gets to hang his hat on? More like they were forced to play more minutes than they should have been. Their per36 suggested they would be ok if they got minutes.
I've already said he deserves next season. And I'll pose my question again: what is the cutoff point with him?
What if Gordon is healthy the rest of the year and the team sucks? Supposedly we would have won more games if he was healthy this season.

I'm pretty sure it's not a precise mathematical calculation.

What constitutes suckage in this scenario? Suppose they end up winning, say, 35 games?

It's looking like another lottery pick. All signs point to them signing a big name in the offseason. Couple that with the supposed progression of our young guys. Would you expect a playoff team? I mean, half the teams in the conference makes it. At one point you have to get over the "we play in a tough conference" excuse and actually secure a playoff spot.

Well they won 21 last season. I'd say anything over 30 would be progress.
Eta- 21 wins out of 66. 32%

I'm not really sure of the point you're making or what your personal benchmark may be. I would say that I would be disappointed if they didn't make the playoffs next year.

Well, I think this offseason goes a long way to making us a playoff team. Another high pick and a lot of space should at least net a starting 3 and a backup point.

I was being ambiguous in hopes of hearing others opinions. I think it's playoffs or bust Monty, as far as his job is concerned.
All signs point to them making big moves in the offseason. They almost have to. When the roster is complete, I assume Monty will be expected to make the playoffs.

I think Monty should get another season. I agree that we need to make the playoffs next season for him to keep his job.
I'm not sold that Benson/new ownership necessarily feel the same way. They may be more willing to pull the plug early and start over with a new guy

I think ownership (and Loomis and Lauscha) have faith in Demps. I'll just say that. Monty gets next year for sure unless something unforeseen happens.

I was told that Loomis scared the shite out of Demps.
And i disagree that its playoffs or bust next year.. They didnt just give him a 4 year extension to can him so soon. Going from awful to playoff contention next year should be enough for Monty.

For all the people that hate the Hornets O what exactly would you change? Corner 3's are usually a result of dribble penetration and floor spacing so is the Hornets O without Gordan just not very good at getting in the paint or do they not space shooters? I haven't watched any games this year because I'm not a fan but I am a Coach and enjoy talking X's and O's.
