Why are so many people thinking we will be elite next year?

We have the hardest SEC schedule out of the entire conference next year and we are losing 5 starters on defense. 4 of which are all world players. Our offense is abysmal no matter who we are returning. That has been the only constant on that side of the ball for a few years now. Different players/same terrible results.
Seriously I am as positive as the next guy but if you think we will win more than 8/9 games next year then you will probably be very disappointed. I hope I am wrong but being a realist it is hard to see anything different at this point.

I implore anyone to give me a list of reasons as to why we will be elite next season. Tell me why we will beat UGA, Bama, or TAMU. What advantages do we hold over them?
ETA: It will be difficult to answer this considering most teams only have 2-4 underclassmen leaving and we're having potentially 8-10

There's nothing wrong with having realistic expectations. The 2011 defense was probably the best LSU defense of all time. The 2012 D took a step back because of personnel losses. To think next year's D will be better is silly. There will be growing pains. And it remains to be seen if the O can carry the team.
Even so, it would be encouraging to see the coaching staff do something radical with the O next season in preparation for the new era of college football in 2014.

I have been the biggest Les Miles supporter around these parts since I signed up and will continue to be. But after this year i just cannot go along with elite coaching anymore. We lack creativity.

Exactly, I expect them to take a pretty big step back next year. But I am seeing tons of posts on here acting like they are suddenly a national power. A year ago we were laughing at them, now suddenly people a afraid? fricking sad little pussies.

And we're losing our best LB, our best S, our best CB, both of our DEs, our best DT, the best punter in the history of our team, one- maybe two RBs, maybe our FB and perhaps a tackle.
