Dumbest sequence of play calling in the history of college football
Amazing. The coaches called a play that put Jarvis Landry wide arse open for a first down that might have sealed the game. How is that "dumb"?

The thing that makes it dumb is the game circumstance. The first play, a pass, got eight yards. That leaves two plays to get two yards and we have a running back, full back, and tight ends recruited for running the ball. Instead of running the ball twice and forcing Clemson, to not only stop us, but use two time outs were beyond dumb.

But if we had run 2 plays into what was going to be 23 men in the box and got stonewalled, the coaches would have been blasted for doing that too.

Miles haters against bama - "WHY DIDN'T WE THROW THE BALL TO GET THE FIRST DOWN AND RUN OUT THE CLOCK!!??"

True but you have to look at context of the game. Bama's run d is stout and they were selling out to stop it. Clemson could not stop hill even if they had 9 in the box. No brainer

Mett had a wide open receiver in the flat and over threw him. it was not the play calling

Well to be fair the circumstance behind the second down calls were a little different.
Second and long against Bama there is no reasonable person thinks we can get a first Dow....even then, I supported Les in his running the ball there, just as 95% of coaches do.
The deal against Clemson was mind blowing. Getting to second and short was a great call, because we weren't running it that well. But second and short? Reasonable minds can agree we have a great chance to get first down if we just run it....at the very least make em burn timeouts.
But we don't, we have a reverse of known football strategy. It's like Les actually let's armchair QBs influence not only his play calling, but affect strategy.
Like the fake against Bama, he wanted to be wild man Les, Lesticles, and he was gonna run that, damned any circumstance.
I was pro Les, I was neutral Les, now I am really losing confidence in him as a coach. We will see, next year has the potential to get ugly.

quote:It is play calling anything can happen in that situation. You need to force there hand and make them call timeouts. Even if we did give the ball back clemson would have been in a bind without that security blanket of having timeouts. Think about it when sam got his sack on that last drive clemson would have been pressed for time. At that point it wasn't worth the risk of stopping the clock and not forcing the hand of clemson having to use the timeouts.

10.4 yards a carry and not a single carry in the entire 4th quarter. Defend that one.
Posted on 1/4/13 at 8:53 am to zacharytiger08
and yet everyone was screaming "WHY DIDN'T WE THROW THE BALL?????" against bama.

The defensive coverage called on 4th and 16 was a worse mistake than the pass on 2nd and 2. They have one receiver and you put a safety on him one on one?

You seem to think Miles is infallible and it was Mett's fault LSU loss. Defend Miles not giving a guy averaging 10.4 YPC a single try to get 2 yards and ice the game. On top of that Les didn't give him a single carry with an 11 point lead in the 4th quarter.

I had no problem with throwing on 1st and 3rd down. It was the 2nd and 2 call that was retarded. You have to run the ball there.

The sad fact remains that any play call that doesn't work is a horrible call to our fan base. Execution beats scheme almost every play. Think the teams playing the Vikings don't know AP is getting the ball 30-35 times a game? If Mett executes on 2nd down we're not even discussing this because no one would have thought it was a bad call. Some years you have the horses, some years you don't.

Mocked on national tv for losing to Clemson. Is that worth 4 million a year? No other team's bowl loss was just mocked on ESPN.
Florida's was. And their bowl was more important, to a lesser ranked team.
