I saw a great run in the Stanford game today in a short yardage situation they brought the receiver in motion to set up a tight, power running set, with a single back, then pitched to the Bach running for the sidelines. That play would work for us.
A few years ago Les Miles went outside the box and allowed his OC to let Deangelo Peterson to run a reverse around the left side for big yardage. It was 4th and 1 I believe and it was a toss sweep that went for 20 something yards.
I miss that Les Miles. He has disappeared.

No he hasn't. LSU didn't call that play in a vacuum. They saw Bama's end showing a tendency to forget his contain responsibilities. They took a smart gamble based on what the defense was doing. That's exactly what they did on the controversial second down. They saw Clemson selling out to stop the run and took a wise gamble that worked beautifully except for one thing - a player failed to make a routine one-foot-in-front-of-the-other play!
The coaches knew something that I also knew: Clemson was going to blitz the edges and every gap. There was going to be ZERO yards rushing on that series. Hill got ZERO yards against that D. I don't give a shite how many yards he averaged against honest fronts because he wasn't going to see one of those.
A playcaller's job is to get his guys into advantageous situations. On first and second down that's exactly what LSU did, and props to whoever made those calls.
