I would recommend at least unchambering the round before you climb up and down the ladder.
I had a rifle which I thought was 100% perfectly functional go off in my lap when I touched the safety before. It was pointed out the side of the stand into the woods and hit a tree about 50 yards away, but I could have easily killed myself or someone else.
A deer isn't worth shooting yourself or someone else for.
