I think this dudes confused
Only thing you forgot to add was that Okafor's salary for the year was CHEAPER than Chandler's the year the trade was made.
Okafor had an increasing salary by each year.

not at all. I did however miss the part Broski said about Shinn planning to sell the team so with that being considered then yea he may have saved a couple million. I was just talking about overall Okafor was more expensive than Chandler.

Because that was a huge downgrade at C and it was one of the multiple front office frick ups that caused Chris Paul to want out

lets all just be thankful this holiday season that Shinn is out of the picture.

It saved Shinn like $2 million in salary, so that's another $2 million in luxury.
Don't know if those are the exact numbers but its close.
Doesn't matter if it was a huge drop off in production or not. its what happens when your owner is broke.

in those two years
Chandler
$11,850,000
$12,600,000
------------
$24,450,000
Okafor
$10,538,937
$11,495,000
------------
$22,033,937
Total Savings = $2,416,063

At the time the team was living hand to mouth. A Dodgers scenario (unable to make payroll) was not far fetched.
Not sure where you got your numbers, but yearly difference was $2million between Chandler and Okafor. Chandler's salary would have put the team in the luxury tax- why they tried to deal him to OKC for expirings. So Okafors contract saved another $2million.
The final savings were about $8million with luxury tax included.

The fact that we got rid of Chandler for Oak still baffles me
At the time the Hornets staff (and the Thunder's, btw) thought Chandler's foot issue would be re-occurring. He also would end up costing more money. No matter the amount, every penny mattered to Shinn. At the time, there were people who thought the move was a decent one (ahem). Hindsight is 20-20. Chandler to well and is a great defender. He also is expensive.
It would have been great to keep a healthy and productive Chandler and maintain the Paul, West, Chandler core. Of course, at that point ownership and the Walrus had shown little ability to find the right pieces to take them to the next level.
