Our problems running a halfcourt offense have been evident well before tonight, especially in crunch time
Another thread bitching about bad players being bad.
Even with overwhelmed guards and the black hole at SF, the offense is rated 23 by B-R and 18 by Hollinger.

A lineup with Ryan Anderson and Anthony Davis on the floor should be able to run better offensive sets in crunch time.
Sorry, if you disagree.

What crunch time set would you be running to ensure success?

Because clearly I said that I should have Monty's job, right???
I see what other teams though when coming out of a timeout, and it is a hell of a lot more efficient than what the Hornets have done this season.

quote:bullshite, he is shooting 41%, scoring 13.5, and has under 1 TO a game. I still think it was absurd they traded him
Thornton is having an abysmal year

Are you judging results or do you see a structural flaw in what Monty's doing?

Ball handlers are responsible for initiating efficient offense. Hornets guards are inefficient ergo inefficient offense.
But again, specific examples of poor play design please. Is it result or system that you don't like?

Both, the results are obvious. But it seems our go to play out of a timeout with the game on the line is try and get Ryno open for 3, if that isn't there, Vasquez goes iso and wastes 10-15 seconds for a low percentage shot.

Dude we needed Landry not to.be swept and to a season where Landry set for being in the dog house. Great trade. Marcus hated playing here anyway.
Btw..he didn't play bad d.....Marco was much worse....
I love Monty..but we will.never score with him

If the lack of talent prevents players from getting to right spot or seeing the open man on a well designed play, it will look like a clusterfrick.

get Ryno open for 3,
That would be the most efficient shot choice on this team. In crunch time, defenses will do everything to avoid a Ryno 3. And with no Gordon, no one else scares a defense.

I agree that this is bad. I would rather let Rivers do that, he might at least get into the paint.
The results suck and it's frustrating. But writers like Zach Lowe and Rob Mahoney have been very complimentary of Monty's offensive work this season. I linked at least one Mahoney article (LA game recap) where he praised the sets the team runs and how effective they've been given the lack of offensive talent.

Yes, that should always be the first option, but because of that every team knows what's coming and defends accordingly. My point is that we don't adjust if that option isn't there and because of that, we get Vasquez Iso which more times than not leads either a terrible shot or turnover and we lose another close game.

Ryno can't create his own shot and Davis is still maturing offensively

They still warrant defensive attention which should open up other options.

He may be worth keeping going forward. That's about it.

Austin Rivers would be much better on the ISO than Vasquez, there's one.
An open jumper for whoever is playing the 3, that's a better percentage (albeit not by much) than a Vasquez ISO, there's two.

I don't know what other option Monty has when teams double Anderson. Run Aminu off screens? Lopez post up? PnR with Lopez? There are no healthy players who can consistently create a good shot in crunch time.
I've been impressed at how Monty has been able to get Anderson so many good looks when he is the only offensive threat every night.

I do agree that Rivers needs PT at PG
The 3 is just a clusterfrick though. I honestly believe the Darius Miller might be our best SF, but he has a lot of development to go through. But we don't have a 3 that can make a shot.
