I do that a lot. Long posts. Half the time I end a thread with one and nobody gets to read it. That always sucks.

well I saw it last night on a screener a friend had downloaded.

I cant judge the 48FPS or anything like that b/c the quality was so so but I did think a lot of the lighting seemed strange.

I read The Hobbit when I was in grade school so my memory is a bit fuzzy on what all happened. I'm guessing the stuff with the Brown Wizard was added in as well as the dwarfs battling their way out of from the goblins?

I thought the tone in the film shifted wildly and caused everything to feel very choppy. One second we get the Brown Wizard being a silly weird guy and the next we are getting Gandolf slicing off a head.

I dunno, it just seemed like some things were overly kiddyfied. Hell, the Brown Wizard would have looked a bit off even in a Harry Potter movie IMO. I also thought the close shots of him riding his rabbit sleigh looked a little weak. Perhaps that was b/c of it being shot for 3D but the compositing looked worse than the dino stampede in King Kong.

Thorin looks overly human to the point that I would forget he is a dwarf. i would have have made his backstory as part of the prologue as well b/c it felt jarring to suddenly go into his attempts to retake the mountain.

I think I may have to wait until all three are out to get a proper feel for them but as a stand alone flick this one just didnt flow well enough to rise above any of the LOTR films.

B-/C+
