Uruguay:
Currently have a good squad but this guy is talking about since 1966. They have failed to qualify for 5 of the last 11 world cups out of CONMEBOL.

Mexico: 1st in last two Gold Cups, Round of 16 in last 5 WCs, U-23s won Gold in 2012 Olympics
Anything with a U before it really doesn't matter here. Also, imagine the trophies England would have if they were in CONCACAF.

Portugal: Semifinal in Euro 2000 and 2012, Runner-Up in Euro 2004, 4th in WC2006, Round of 16 in WC2010
Again, they have failed to qualify for 7 of the last 11 WCs and only once advanced past the group stage in that time.

I didn't see him say 1966 until after I typed all that out.
Well, I think comparing the teams from the last 10 or so years is a better way of determining overall strength today than 46 years ago, but that's just me.
However, most of these "failed to qualify" results are pre-2000, and I really don't think they are that relevant to the team's status right now.
