There's some thing to be said about paying your dues, playing shite-hole bars 325 nights a year, being your own driver, roadie, tech, etc. It's that desire and hunger that fuels those type of artists and their creativity.
These are people who want you to write sanctimonious stories about the genius of rock stars, and they will ruin rock 'n' roll and strangle everything we love about it, y'know. 'Cause they are trying to buy respectability for a form that is gloriously And righteously dumb. Now, you're smart enough to know that. And the day it ceases to be dumb is the day that it ceases to be real, right? And then it just becomes an industry of...cool. I'm tellin' you, you're coming along at a very dangerous time for rock 'n' roll. I mean, the war is over. They won. And 99% of what passes for rock 'n' roll these days, silence is more compelling.

From someone who has attended countless concerts in all genres of music over the past 30+ years, there is no better live performer with a better show or more solid voice who puts more energy, heart, and soul into each concert than Kenny Chesney. And he has the ticket sales from over a decade to back up that statement.

Aren't you comparing post success lifestyles to pre-success lifestyle though?
Cash/Jones/Johnny Paycheck, etc., probably lived pretty lavish lives after they were successful.
It's not like Chesney inherited that yacht.

Is this from Dennis Hopper in "Apocalypse Now?" If that was off the cuff, that's pretty cool.

That's from Almost Famous, an absolutely amazing movie from start to finish and one of my top 10 personal favorites of all time.

meh, to each his own I guess, I see him quite a bit because he seems to play at Cowboys Stadium every month, and his fans are devoted as hell, but he comes across to me as pretty cookie cutter, soft pop/rock, but put on a cowboy hat, sleeveless t-shirt, tight jeans, and boots, and call it country, as I said, to each his own, he just doesn't do it for me
FWIW: Sea Ray makes shitey yachts, money can't buy taste
BTW: his band is kick arse!

New country(really pop) music is horrible in general.
In saying that:
One thing we forget to think about is back in the "Good ol Days" most of the music sucked as well we just tend to remember the songs we liked out of the 1000's that sucked so we just think it was all good. In reality it might have been a little better but still most of it sucked....

Exactly. He is one of the smartest, hard working singer/songwriters there is. He earned everything he has the hard way, not by winning some singing contest. Even the old-timers give him much accolades for his unbelievable work ethic and dedication.
Before people start bashing when they don't know what they're talking about, they really should do some research on the biographies and career histories of the very ones they're dissing.

This reminds me of another thing that the majority of these older generation megastars have in common. Once they gain they gain their success, and have no financial worries, they seem to lose their creative edge, and the quality of their product goes downhill. Granted, much of it is/was driven by record label marketing, but it seems once they get on easy street, their writing turns to drivel.

Also reportedly a closet homo.
I, like Peyton Manning, choose Outlaw Country on the Sirius/XM. New country music is really bad.

That's the word on the street, and from what I've heard from people that are around him a bit, there's something to it.
