That was Benny Griffin. I know you remember that name. He preceded Mike Anderson who wore the number following Benny.

Three of the first 5 Tigers named are playing elsewhere today. RIP Sammy, Trigger, Nelson...

Most important game I ever attended. I was in the Navy at the time. After the game, on the way back to the ship in New Port News, Va, I stopped in Kingsport, TN to see some young ladies. Started dating this lady, married her the next April.
We lost the game but I got a winner. Forty-four years and counting.

That 74 team was the year of the Veer. Earned Carl Otis Trimble the nickname Carl Otis Fumble, God rest his soul.

I thought they switched to the veer in '75 ... any way, it was a 1-year experiment only. Mac went back to the I-formation the next season, and Robiskie had a big year.

The LSU uniforms in that '67 film ... those of that era ... were simple, but classy. I'd love to see the current team wear the retro jerseys for a game.

Cincinnati is right that Mac moved to the veer for the '74 season. He was expecting Mike Miley (rip) to return as qb for that season; Miley was drafted to play pro baseball and left early. That forced Mac to turn to Carl Otis Trimble (also rip). The offense was at times explosive, but was mistake prone. So, what was expected to be a great year turned out to be a very mediocre campaign with no bowl. We did move back to the I the next year and Terry had very good junior and senior seasons, backed up by Charles Alexander who went on to be pretty good as well (just inducted into the CFHOF).
