Te'O has 7 INTs, though
If he earned those interceptions then I'd have to go with Teo. If he caught a bunch of flutter balls in zone, then no. But I haven't seen him.

That is so stupid. An interception is an interception no matter how you get it. They make all the difference in a game; turnovers are the second most important thing to points in football.
He helps his team win the turnover battle. And I'm sure you saw at least the one from that Oklahoma game, which was awesome.
You are going to sit there and say you haven't watched him play then discredit him because someone tells you they were tipped or flutter balls?

Stats are stats.
Watch the impact they actually have. Does Te'o truly stand out? To me he is solid, but he benefits tremendously playing with a great defense around him against poor competition. Like I said most of his tackles are gang related. He had 3 or less solo tackles from the MLB position in like 10 of his games. Virtually no TFL.
Idk. He doesn't jump out to me when I watch ND's defense.

Agreed. I've watched notre dame play 5-6 games this year. Minter is faster, a better tackler, more instinctive, on and on. The media is so desperate to bring notre dame back to relevancy they push an average linebacker at us as a heisman candidate. Its ridiculous. He's a good kid so no knock on him but come on. Minter is better, Jones, mosley, Jenkins. Mel Kiper was on this morning and said teo could be the first LB #1 pick. That guy is such a moron. Why do people listen to him. He looks like a character off of sesame street and I assure you he lives in his parents basement. ,

I think Jones goes ahead of Teó.. but he will be top 15 in my opinion.
But you are right.. Again just watching them play he does not stand out. I am sorry.
Mosley even stands out. That guy has the ability to take over games. Really hope the Saints can get that dude.

I think it is kind of crazy Teo has won all the awards so far. He is a great player but If he didn't play for an undefeated ND AND have the heart tugging story of his gf and grandma dying he wouldn't have won those awards.

This is solid information that makes for a good argument. My point was that 7 int's is a lot and this cat was going to discredit them after watching none of his games.
I'm not arguing that Minter isn't as good as Te'o; I think that he is. I'm arguing that 7 INT's is very impressive and you need to have a nose for the ball to get them. 7 interceptions don't just fall into ANY player's lap throughout a season.

Definitely. Minter was a fuggin beast this year.
truth.

not truth...the kid can ball and has a nack for making big plays at crunch time.

Teo is great. I've watched 2.5 of their games. And with that sample sized, I can't say anything bad about his play.
Don't get me wrong he's a great player, but he shouldn't have swept the national awards and be a Heisman finalist... There are plenty of great LBs every year.
The funny thing is he'll probably win since all the old sports writers won't want to vote for a freshman...

The power of the media and ND's undefeated season. This isn't discounting his play at all though. He played solid all year

Does anyone have a Minter highlight reel? An admittedly brief search yielded nothing. Except this one, which doesn't flatter him:
I dont but minter was unbelievable in that UF game.
20 tackles, 17 of them solo.
3 TFL
1 FF
2 sacks.
More forced fumbles and sacks in that game than Teo had all year. I'm not bagging on Teo as a good player, but taking home 6 awards and a heisman finalist? cmon.

Consider Teo's Junior stats compared to Minter's Junior stats:
Teo's Junior Stats
128 Tackles
13.5 Tackles for loss
5 Sacks
0 Interceptions
It is an interesting stat that Teo did not intercept a pass until his senior season when he had seven, which is an insane number of interceptions. I do not watch ND that much so I am not sure why, but I wonder if he improved his pass coverage skills or ND used him differently in the defense.
I believe Minter will get as many accolades if he returns for his senior season like Teo did.

7 is a lot. but several just fell into his arms. it really seemed like more of an anamoly than anything. But he still probably deserved 3 or 4 which is still a solid stat for the year.

Oh I have always said Teo's has better season than this.
His sophomore season may very well be his best.. if not then his junior year.

Front four was better. They led more games forcing teams to pass more.

And that's what I am saying. He benefits playing in a great defense against a ton of bad teams (IMO) and most of his tackles were gang related. Few solo tackles per game.

How many times have you seen a ball just fall into someones arms and they drop it? Being in the right place at the right time that often isn't an anomoly.
You sound like all the people who claim luck when LSU wins games. When it happens so regularly it is no longer luck.

Makes sense. And, it sounds like he was a ball hawk and benefitted from a few tipped balls.
