there's DragonCon in Atlanta. it's around Labor Day wknd. interesting mix of that crowd and the LSU/UNC crowd a few yrs ago, lol.
I was going to point this out as well. There were a ton of good looking ladies at this for sure.
I too was there for the LSU/UNC game, where our hotel was overbooked

Both Khan and Mitchell...hmmm.
How about this (not a spoiler, but speculation):
Kirk finds/discovers/runs into Khan and his peeps on the same mission that will result in GM's "issues."
Khan actually assists Kirk in addressing GM, but in to doing, Kirk realizes that Khan (and his followers) are not going to play nicely with others on Earth (and vice versa [remember, the new timeline still has all of the prior events up to the new timeline]) and utilizes the same "solution" as in the original series/timeline.
Just a thought.

The only reason I watched the first is for Zoe Saldana. The only reason I'll watch this is... for Zoe Saldana.

Did a double-take watching POTC: Black Pearl and seeing she was in it.

The Japanese trailer does have some indelible imagery which would point to Khan, but I still think Mitchell is one of the bad guys, both due to the newness of the Enterprise crew still and the fact that Alice Eve looks just like Sally Kellerman. Of course, she could be playing Chapel, but Chapel was never the "sit there and scream type".
Now, I said one of the bad guys, because this trailer showed neither hide nor hair of Peter Weller, who is also in the film. This, more than anything, gives credence to the Mitchell & Khan theory.
I still think Khan is a landmine the Bad Robot crew didn't want to step on. I felt they did a good job walking the fine line between mass appeal and fan approval last time, and messing with Khan would have a massively negative fan impact with a negligible mass appeal upside. Just don't see the math working out. But who knows, I'm just a guy who talks about Star Trek in a serious tone on a sports-centric message board........

This is a good point about Bad Woebot. Mitchell is "safer" in the sense that he had a very small roll in the original series and totally makes sense in a remake like this.

Yeah, she took over the black pearl for Jack briefly if I'm not mistaken. Small cameo, but she was definitely in it.

Ehhhh, close enough...I mean, look at the hair!
The part is on different sides. They would hate each other on sight and fight endlessly to the death.

Sounds like Abrams

The thing about Khan that wouldn't make much sense to me is that where the timeline is they should be just meeting him. So there isn't that level of familiarity required to make a truly horrible enemy like in Wrath.
Plus, Cumberpatch is a fantastic actor but he is no Ricardo Montalban. I feel like it would be a huge injustice to rob the character of the ethnic flare that was originally brought to the part. That is why I was so pumped about the Javier Bardem rumours.

You can't just throw young Kirk into Movie-era plots. There are tons of ways plot elements & characters can be mixed and matched from TOS to make new and exciting storylines for these movies. Not to mention brand new foes, etc. Just throwing a Big Bad at the Enterprise and calling him Khan, just because this is the "second" film and casual observers know the word Khan is a terrible idea.
No one wants Star Trek to turn into Die Hard.

I'm thinking no Kahn at all, at this point. They shouldn't have a problem making a movie with just Gary Mitchell and maybe they'll blow up the planet Klingon in this one

Looks awesome. i don't remember Khan having superpowers like that though.

You're the best! Seriously though, they don't need to blow up anymore planets this time
