It's just completely unnecessary. It has no advantage over .270/.308/.30-06 for deer inside of 300 yards. Some people just like makin really big booms and fireballs and I get that. I just don't think it's a smart choice for your basic ol deer hunter.

Points to consider

if you go 7mm mag or 300 mag, you are looking at longer barrels and a heavier gun, not the end of the world but I have toted my 7 mag around the woods for 20 years, and I am happy to have the lighter 270 now, also the longer barrel makes the rifle harder to manage in close quarters (a deer stand) but can be done...


also for those talking about the 270 mag..are you talking about the 270 WSM? if so what I have been told is that it is nearly the same ballistics as the 270 but a shorter cartridge, and as of right now much less choices for ammo....if that is true I would stick with the 270 win
