While I hate hair metal with the passion of a thousand burning suns, Huey Lewis was pretty inoffensive pop. Billy Ocean, admittedly, was bizarrely popular in the 80s, but I think his bland pop is pretty similar to today's bland pop. And Phil Collins is sort of an underrated songsmith. I genuinely like Collins' solo work. And 80s Whitney Houston blows the doors off of her current batch of imitators.

'80s Whitney or Adele? I'll take Whitney.

I think the key here is inoffensive. Granted I owned huey lewis, billy ocean and whitney albums in the 80s, but the music was pretty boring IMHO. And they played that plus a lot of other crap.

Phil collins is a different topic, but I am not a fan. He did write some catchy tunes.

But I do agree it was better than what is being played now, but really who listens to the radio? I can only think of three people I know that listen to mainstream radio. one worked in radio for a long time, so she listens to her old station. And the other two just has shitty taste in music. Like really shitty.

I think its just kids under the age of 16 or so plus at places that need music but won't pay like drs offices.

Everyone else listens to their ipod. or xm.

I would hardly call Adele an imitator of Whitney.
