No, most of the stuff played on the radio in the 80s sucked. Now it was better than what is played today.

But for every prince, madonna, michael jackson and duran duran song....you had a suck fest song by billy ocean, huey lewis, whitney houston, phil collins or poison.

While I hate hair metal with the passion of a thousand burning suns, Huey Lewis was pretty inoffensive pop. Billy Ocean, admittedly, was bizarrely popular in the 80s, but I think his bland pop is pretty similar to today's bland pop. And Phil Collins is sort of an underrated songsmith. I genuinely like Collins' solo work. And 80s Whitney Houston blows the doors off of her current batch of imitators.

'80s Whitney or Adele? I'll take Whitney.
