No.
If you're Baylor, Tech, or TCU you can do that and get away with it. Nobody expects much more from those programs.
Texas BMD's have far different expectations. They expect the Horns to be in the hunt for national titles virtually every year, and are tired of seeing Stoops hang 55+ on them (which he has done the last two years).
And trips to the Alamo Bowl (which is actually an improvement over the prior two seasons) are not acceptable. Especially with BOTH of their rivals facing each other in a higher-ranked bowl.
Bottom line: Brown either gets the Horns to a BCS bowl next year or the BMD's start making noise. Money talks and BS walks.

Here's what it took to get rid of R.C. Slocum:
-Wally Groff "resigns" after Robert Gates becomes the university president
-Embarrassing loss to Virginia Tech in which we held the nations leading rushing attack to less than 100 yards but still manage to lose 13-3.
-Overtime loss to Texas Tech at home in which we blew an 18-point fourth quarter lead, then MISSED the tying PAT in overtime.
-Loss to Nebraska at home in which we blew a 17-point 2nd half lead.
-Loss to Oklahoma State on the road (first loss to Oklahoma State in Big 12 play)
-Overtime loss to Missouri at home the week AFTER beating #1 Oklahoma.
I'm not sure how much of the Brandon Fails situation contributed to Slocum's firing because I think he was already a lame duck coach after the Missouri game, but having one of your players die because your medical staff didn't diagnose him properly sure doesn't help.
If it took all of that to get rid of R.C. Slocum, just imagine what it will take to get rid of Mack Brown.

A lot of Horns are saying it's time for Mack to go . If Nick would take the job Mack would be gone tomorrow .

Here's a creative way for Horn Fans to express their desires in regards to Mack.

All you described there was a bad season and a change of AD, which is pretty standard where coaching changes occur

Not just a change of AD. Change of University President (one protecting mediocre AD), change of AD (one protecting has-been coach), team with 10-2 talent going 6-6, etc.

texas is probably going to get hammered by oregon state and i think that will be the last straw for him.

My point was that Mack's insecurity/ego is driving him to possibly "promote" Major as the next HC because, if Major is successful, Mack can sit back and take some credit for it. How do you think it looks if someone else comes in, let's say Petersen, and does well. Makes Mack look like more of an incompetent than he does now.
yep. mack seems to have a giant ego. had he retired a few years ago, he'd have been able to settle in as a legend. now he's going to have a tarnished legacy. its doubtful he can turn anything around in the timeline demanded, so he's going to basically get forced out, and if they also prevent him from helping pass the torch, its gonna eat at him. if someone else comes in and kicks arse (which is what should happen at texas), he'll look more incompetent with each passing year. thats just got to eat at an ego like brown. you can be sure that he will do everything in his power to get his guy in the job, prob applewhite, so he can take as much credit as he can. if Texas would buy saban and would then win a couple of 'ships, MAck would be forgotten quickly.
