But some criticism and saying the guy isnt elite
He hasn't played himself into the conversation of elite quarterbacks this season. However, I've said it before and I'll say it again; there were extenuating circumstances surrounding the entire Saints organization. I wouldn't be surprised to see him jump back to that normal, elite level again next year. He's going to need better offensive line and defensive play if that is going to happen, though. The Saints put far too much pressure on his shoulders.

What would he need to do to be elite this season?

I disagree with both of these cutting out the first 4 games of the season. Brees's problems this year and especially the last 2 games, arent because of the oline or the defense. Not at all.

and I don't really have an issue with people who claim this.

The thread title is "Is Drew Brees still an elite QB?". I think that the answer is an unquestionable yes. A player doesn't quit being elite due to a few bad games in a very strange season. If you asked that question to NFL players and coaches, almost all of them would say he is elite.

well we've had oline injuries + our oline coach wasn't able to focus on that through the first 6 games. They started being great again, and then we got hit by the injury bug. Our interior line has been solid, bushrod has been streaky (as always) and our RT have been hurt (4th string for the san fran game). I think the injuries to the receivers have been pretty significant too, especially in the denver and san fran games. Graham hasn't been the same since his injuries

I'm completely fine with the way our defense has played since Denver. Spags has had a learning curve every single place he's been. If they hold at this level, you can't ask for much more.

This all depends on who the next Saints HC will be. If it's Payton then he'll get back to his all world level. And let's hope this happens because coach Vitt is obviously not doing it for him.
