Payton's had a few head scratchers too in his time. Plenty of folks have asked wtf on some of te stuff he does. I'm not saying Carmichael is great it he's certainly not the reason for the loss tonight. 90% execution. 10% calling

And the Saints new offense coach? Greg Studrawa!

Shitty playcalling on 3rd down to not run it more with Pierre not getting touched until he's gained at least 4-5 yards most of the time. Other then that can't complain too much, Brees and Strief ruined most of the other calls

He had plenty in 08 but none that come to mind since 2009 minus a fake field goal against ATL in 09

Payton is a top 3 playcaller in the NFL, but he abandons the run entirely too often (just as Carmichael has this season).

Payton really came out of that 08 @TB game with a ferocious dedication to the run. 09-11 I can't think of a loss where a lack of commitment to the run cost us.
Posted on 11/30/12 at 12:32 am to DelU249
Yeah since '09 I can't really think of a time where Payton didn't try to run the ball, even in 2010 when we were down a bunch of RBs he ran the ball some(or at least so I think, don't have the stats on me)

That's Kromer, not Carmichael.

Besides the play calling, I'm not sure who is in charge of player personnel, but it has been awful all season. When Pierre is in the game the offense has the most diversity of plays they can run, the opt to use Ingram and Sproles who makes the offense predictable.
My favorite formation is the 2RB(Thomas, Sproles) Shotgun. Our success rate in this formationis very high.

Yeah the diversity on play calling in regards to certain formations hasn't worked out well this year. Sproles never runs the ball anymore for some reason and Ingram will get the carry besides like 2-3 times a game

Carmichael is in charge of that. He chooses who goes into which packages, who steps on the field for which plays, and who is the target receiver for passing plays and who and when gets to run the ball. And he is doing a piss poor job in key situations and like 50% of the rest of the time in every single aspect i just mentioned.

3rd and short has been a problem long before this year

For real? May wanna look that up.

I think that was more on Brees than anything.
I willing to bet my paycheck next week that Carmichael was the one who told Drew to huddle through his headset. I understand what he wanted to accomplish & that would have been to use up as much as the clock as possible before scoring. They should have just lined up & called the play at the line of scrimmage, that way everyone would have already been set & in place to snap the ball. That's on Carmichael, not Brees, he's the one making the calls through the headset to Drew.

Payton is the best playcaller in football but Carmichael hasnt been that bad. He is Payton lite.
My arse! Carmichael can't hold Payton's clipboard as a game planner, play caller & game manager. Payton is a master of exploiting opposing defender's weaknesses in technique no matter how great a player that defender maybe. Carmicheal hasn't come close to being able to expose any such weaknesses. Neither has he been able to consistently expose any flaws in the oppositions defensive schemes. These are both things Payton is a master at & has perfected his craft over the years.
The fact that it took 8 games for Pete to realize the offense needed to run the ball more was a total head scratcher & only adds to the point of how much lacks in the area of play calling. The screen game has become nonexistent which is pathetic if you ask me as well as his route combinations that he has the receivers run.
Carmichael has no feel for the game either. The offense never seems completely on the same page nor does he ever push tempo like Payton is well known for doing.
Carmicheal sucks if you ask me. He's no more then a quarterbacks coach in my opinion.

The problem is that when we DO run.. We give the ball to 2 YPC Ingram
Posted on 11/30/12 at 12:39 pm to loyalauron
Why have we not run the screen passes this year(Maybe a couple of times all year). We have always done a good job on screen passes. Pete must not like them. Payton would call 5 or 6 a game. We may have run that many all year.
