MNC season in 2007? very lucky.
We were the highest ranked team with 2 losses. Ohio State was the only team with 1 loss. The schedule alone would have got us there. So go on and diminish the results if it makes them feel good. But we didn't get a repeat when we played OS.

I abhor playing not to lose, it is an insanity that almost all coaches are prone to.

2 flukes from a possible all time dynasty If LSU hadn't: Lost 21-20 to Arkansas in 2002 Lost 10-9 to Auburn in 2004 Lost 7-3 to Auburn in 2006 LSU would have been in the SEC championship 7 years in a row.
This is true but just one side of the story. Is not like every other game LSU won by 50. Overall we've done well in close games and overall accomplishments.

How can you clowns still blame Jimbo Fisher for this?? Have you not watched a Les Miles offense from 2009-2012? Do you still really believe that Les Miles said, "Go ahead Jimbo, call what you want, it's your game."?
I do think that when Miles hired Crowton (remember that Miles didn't hire Jimbo) that he let him do his thing. Doing his thing was great in 2007, way too turnover prone in 2008.

Seems as though these 1 possession loses have some things in common... either lack of exacution or coaches putting them in poor positions to make the correct play.. Both coaches have made poor calls that cost them games but if you line them head to head for an equal match up with equal time to prepare you see the result 1/09... It's unfortuate but true.
Yes we are a top tier program without a doubt but it seems as though we a game or 2 every year that in spite of Les not because of him. These type of thing will keep you from being a "team of the decade"

2003: UF 19 - LSU 7
Offensive points = 0
Offensive Coordinator = Jimbo Fisher
LSU Head Coach = Nick Saban
Florida Head coach = Ron Zook

Are you really arguing the Les was unlucky? That would be a first. Les has had enough good fortune to last 100 lifetimes.

Les Miles has had his share of luck. Good and bad. Same as any other coach.
Gene Chizik was lucky. Coaches like Saban, Meyer, and Miles are successful because they are the best at what they do.

Actually, this is why I can't wait for an 8 team playoff.
It'll be LSU/Bama NCG rematches year after year after year.
The 4 SEC teams that make the tournament every year will be put on the same side of the bracket so that everyone else has a "fair" chance of at least playing for the game. It's all about the money, and the rest of the country will tell CFB to get fricked if it's an annual SEC championship part 2 for the crystal year in and year out

The 06 team was really close. Fumbled on 1 yard line twice against UF and dropped a fumble within 15 yard. And AU game was worst officiated in memory.

It's funny how good teams tend to get the most luck?
LSU, Alabama, and Florida have been on a 10 year run of collecting the best athletes and coaches together. Most of the "luck" on display reflects that the best teams win most of the close games.
I think what's interesting about LSU is how close they've teetered to multiple championships (as the thread referred to) versus how many of these years they could have picked up an additional 1-2 losses to lesser teams in very close games and weird circumstances (Troy 2008, Tennessee 2010, Ole Miss 2012). I think if you look back over a decade it's kind of evened out over how you'd expect things to break.
It's kind of mind-blowing where Saban and Miles have gotten LSU to on a year to year basis compared to historical levels. LSU fans now sound like Bama fans where 1 or 2 loss seasons are disappointments if you're not in the BCS games :)

Les Miles is lucky. He has lived a charmed life. But I'd rather he be a good coach.

Since we are playing this game. Had it not been for one of the craziest days in college football history, les would have zero national championships.
If we are playing this game, Saban would have one in 2009. 2003 if Oklahoma doesn't lose LSU doesn't make it. Last season, if he doesn't get the biggest mulligan in history, he doesn't make it. This season, if Kansas St. doesn't get blown out by 4-4 Baylor he doesn't make it.

Aub. game in 06 Piss poor Ref's. Who says the barners don't own the Refs. Too bad for them they haven't had a coach since Tubberville!

How did LSU lobby again?
What? In the last BCS poll LSU jumped from #7 up to #2 over a bunch of 2 loss teams that didn't even play that weekend. Miles was telling the press for weeks that LSU was the only team that was "undefeated in regulation." He lobbied his arse off.
I don't have any doubt LSU was the best two loss team in 2007, but the voters had to be convinced of it. People bitching about Bama lobbying last year are stupid.

Not really. Sure, the top 2 teams in the BCS both lost, but the only "crazy" thing that happened was WVU losing to that terrible Pitt team. Mizzou, though No.1 by default in the BCS, was not favored to beat Oklahoma in the Big 12 title. That pales in comparison to the favor granted to Alabama last year.

The difference is LSU "lobbied" only after the cards fell the right way, and they WON something. LSU could talk about the great games they won against Heisman front runner Tim Tebow and the Gators, the pummeling of ACC champ VT, the fact that they won the SEC. Every coach is going to lobby for their team, but LSU (and Oklahoma for that matter) actually had merit. Last year, Alabama's LOSS to LSU was their biggest talking point, while other teams actually won their conferences and other big games.
As far as Les arguing for weeks, LSU was already in the top 2 and headed for a title until the loss to Arkansas, the last game of the season. There was no need to lobby before then, and no need to lobby until after the SEC championship, because before then there were still 3 1-loss teams out there.

Got a point there.
sooo, i guess sec only kept lsu out of play 5 out of 6 times. i'm sure slive/sec will try to do better. and make navy happier.
