Underrated bands of the 80s/90s thread...

The great thing about Sirius/XM radio are the stations that play groups you never hear on FM radio. I listen to channel 33 a good hit and am constantly rediscovering groups I remember but was too young in the 80s to look past their one hit.
Oingo Boingo - don't laugh but they're a pretty good band. I only knew Weird Science but have heard a few very catchy songs of theirs on First Wave. Songs like "Stay" and "Just Another Day" and "Dead Man's Party" is good stuff.

--The MF'ing FIXX: "Saved by Zero" is my quintessential 80s song and video.
--Berlin: "Pleasure Victim" is the epitome of the early 80s new synth pop sound.
Others:
--Scandal/Patty Smythe
--Howard Jones: nobody seems to remember him, but he had plenty hits.
--Wang Chung: We had fun. We Wang Chunged.

Definitely agree on Howard Jones. I love his stuff. Squeeze had a couple of fantastic songs as well.
I'll throw out another group:
Survivor - they are so associated with the Rocky franchise that I think people tend to overlook how well their songs hold up over time.
Smithereens -

Fixed - Argybargy and East Side Story are both superb and hold up really well.

Danny Elfman went on to be maybe the best film composer of the modern era.
Squeeze--my favorite of the era--the most critically acclaimed songwriting team of the 80's and were often compared to Lennon/McCartney for lyrical quality and musical variety.
Loved the Smithereens and Howard Jones...saw them both twice in New Orleans.
Not mentioned yet?
Aztec Camera
INXS (although we've had threads on them recently)

INXS -
Yes - I realize they don't necessarily qualify as an 80s band but their 80s stuff is underappreciated in my humble opinion. I'd throw on their side project band Asia as well

Toto - can't believe I almost forgot about them. Quote possibly the most underrated band to come out of the 80s/90s. Incredibly talented and underappreciated musically not to mention great singing and songwriting.

I'll take a little country detour on my next one. Although I've never been a huge country music fan I do appreciate old school country as well as a lot of the good 80s/90s stuff from that genre. One very good overshadowed artist from that genre was:
Keith Whitley - Listening to his music in light of the knowledge of his battle with depression/alchoholism and tragic premature death is very moving. RIP Keith.....I'm no stranger to the rain. I'm a friend of thunder, friend is it any wonder lightning strikes me.............
