Okay, pretend I'm a drooling idiot. So you're walking behind the dogs and they jump a deer. You shoot it on the run?

No. People get in the woods at daylight in straight lines about 300 yards apart and "take a stand" (sit on a log). Somebody comes an hour or so later and turns some dogs loose. If the dogs run a buck by your stand you shoot it. The only people walking are the ones who keep the dogs in the hunt.

No, its usually done in a block or an area where you can surround. One man will take the dogs in and turn them lose to jump the deer and the others are standing around the borders to catch the deer crossing out.
