NO. there are HUGE DIFFERENCES. Mac has one hand tied behind his back due to many big dollar alumni preventing him from recruiting african americans. FACT

LSU was not really behind the ball in recruiting blacks. Mac had his first AA in '72, one year after Alabama. The first AA in the SEC was at KY in 1967.

I remember cupcakes on our schedule every year under Mac: Kansas State, Oregon, Oregon State, Indiana, Wake Forest all were pathetic back then.

Anyone else long for the days when the only "cupcakes" on our schedule were still schools from legitimate conferences?

Never had a realistic shot at a MNC under Mac.

I was at most of them too, and from what I've been told, I had some great times! But didn't Indiana beat us in Indiana in '77?

1967(missed xtra-point), 1972 (21-35) 1973 (we outgain them 3 to 1 but 3-fumbles lead to 21-Bama points and we lose 7-21). After the 1973 game Mac's program loses to Tulane and Tennesse in the astro-Bluebonnet Bowl). We are picked to win the SEC in '74, the year of the Tiger, and we go 5-5-1 and we never win over 8-games again until 1982.In 1969 we lose to Ole Miss 23-26 and get knocked out of the Cotton Bowl by ND. Vegas odds in the 1969 bowl season had two teams that would have benn favored over Texas in the 01-01-1970 Cotton Bowl - Penn State by 1 and LSU by 3. Source: Dallas Morning News.

The Bear wasn't Mac's problem in the 1960's. Vaught was. from 1962-1969 LSU was favored in 7 of the 8 games played. Ole Mis won 6, lost 1 and the teams tied 13-13 in 1967 when Eddie Ray from Vicksburg missed a 4th quarter extra point.

mac left in '79, Bo Rien died in a plane ccrash in early 1980, and Stovall coached from 1980- 1983. So, Im no dummy and I probably have forgotten more about LSU football than you will ever know. Not mad at you at all.have a great week.

Mac was Mac's problem. He was a pretty good coach, but that was the best he was ever going to be.

You are probably right. Had a board member tell me when I was in my early 20's that Mac would go to Arkansas on a hunting trip but would not go to New Orleans to visit some of the greatest (White and Black)players in that city. True story.
