Oh thanks sorry I was also lazy to look it up!

Jim Chaney looked impressive against Kentucky today and the players rallied around him. If you can not get a good coach then roll the dice.

I don't have Butch Jones, Tommy Tuberville, or Art Briles. Oh well.

I think it is possible that he stays as an offensive coordinator. Especially if we get a coach like Strong or Smart who are defensive minded coaches.

I know it depends on who the next coach is and what his style of play is and if Chaney fits that style but do you think Jim Chaney will be retained as offensive coordinator. I think it is a possibility if we hire a Kirby Smart or Charlie Strong who are known defensive minds. It also depends how the new coach interacts with the assistants. I was just wondering because there was nothing wrong with the way the offense ran this season and I think Chaney did a good job this week as interim HC.

I think Chaney stays. Its quite obvious the defense was what had the fanbase the most hostile this past year. I see Hart hiring a defensive minded coach which looks favorable for Chaney. Not to mention Chaney seems content with being a coordinator but I could certainly be wrong about that.

I know most Vol fans disagree, but I really would be okay with Al Golden. He wouldn't be my first choice, but I could live with it.

I would have to warm up to Golden his hiring wouldn't make me mad but it would leave me wondering if we couldn't do better. For example Strong Stoops or Gruden

Yall need to bring John Chavis back as your next head coach. The Chief has paid his dues

I know Golden's record is nothing special, but he did walk into two bad situations. He did really good work at Temple.
Brady Hoke was 47-50 overall when Michigan hired him. I'm not saying Golden would work out, but few hires are ever a sure thing type bet.

As DC yes as HC no. Plus the only way I see him coming back to Knoxville is if Cutcliffe was the coach and that is not happening.

I think Golden would do well personally.

I do too, but you really just can't be sure. That's what Tennessee fans want right now, someone they're SURE could win. And that's understandable because they've been beaten down so bad with losses the last several years.
But few head coaches out there are sure bets. Even IF we were to get Jon Gruden, he's not a sure bet as a college head coach. Hell, Saban wasn't a sure bet when LSU hired him in 2000. He worked out, but his record at Michigan State wasn't exactly sterling.
We just have to trust that Dave Hart knows how to pick 'em. He can't be worse than Hambone was.

Agreed. The worst part about this coaching search is that there isn't a top notch coach looking to move like Saban to Bama or Spurrier to SC. It looks like UT may have to hire an up and comer. Hopefully we'll hire a diamond in the rough and not shite in the weeds like our past two.

Saban and Spurrier were really safe bets, but hell, they might not have worked out. Saban won a title at LSU, obviously, but he had some bad losses during his tenure there. It was a safe bet he would get Bama back to respectability, but the chance to play for 3 national titles in 4 years? That's crazy.
Spurrier, meanwhile, took a significant amount of time to get South Carolina to where they are. 2005-2009 were all middling years. Nothing South Carolina had never experienced. It was only when he took them to the title game in 2010 that it became clear he was working. Many around here (myself included) thought Spurrier would hang it up before 2010 since it seemed like it wasn't working.

I totally agree with both your points. I was hinting more at the fact that their isn't a huge name (except Gruden) for UT to hire that would immediately ignite the fan base. Its all about luck and timing and UT's been screwed on both of those the last two times it looked for a coach.
