I had this problem on a 870 Remington several years ago. I purchased one of those big arse jugs of WD-40 and took the barrel off the shotgun and stood it up in the jug for a couple of days. It screwed out with minimal effort after soaking. Just a suggestion.

I would think a type of penetrating oil would be better.

That's called "pickling" it... we used diesel back in the day.
