I wonder why just yelling 'talking out the side of your neck' was so hard...

I agree, I thought it sounded pretty darn good.

It's going to be great when the band only plays pregame and a quick song for each down, and then halftime. The rest of the game will be strictly piped in music, which it's almost to that point anyway. And that's fine the students can then chant their stupid shite to no music. Which I hear is happening already.

yep, it happened during the Bama game

Our students are so clever.

When Neck got banned it was like banning beer from the Super Dome I am like another good thing gone....of course beer did not get banned from the Super Dome but still stupid neck got banned some administrator is on some power trip.....it not the ones that go out in vote that decide an election it is the ones who count the votes...This is how I feel about Neck getting banned

I hope you aren't in college because you write like a seven year old.

I don't even know where to start with this. 1) The analogy is not even close. 2) Take a marketing class, then tell me if it's an administrator on a power trip or a person protecting his product's image.
ETA: grammar

Why do the students think it's cool and witty to chant profanity during the game? I don't understand the draw.

Keep it up and Tiger Band will be replaced by Sandstorm

I doubt they think it's witty, per se. They probably imagine that it is transgressive and iconoclastic. In other words, they are screaming their defiance of convention. It's full of youthful abandon. They believe that it will upset and shock their stodgy elders. And lo and behold, that's precisely what happens, as evidenced by all of these lengthy threads. LOL.
Like I said, I believe it's ultimately innocuous nonsense.

I think the administration knows what they are doing. They remove songs to protect LSU's image like Styxion said, but they do so knowing the student section will come up with another chant/song. They always have and always will.
This way the administration looks like they are trying to take care of a problem, when they are actually allowing it to happen.

That's the issue. There really is no other way to do it that wouldn't cause a huge stink.

Neck sucked. Glad it's gone.

Look, "neck" seemed to be loved pretty unanimously (even visiting fans seemed to love it).
Students will be students...I understand.
But the chant was stupid to begin with just like "A-hole" in Tiger Rag was stupid. At least the "kick their a$$" after the first down cheer seems to fit and go with football. And it's not that vulgar... The neck thing is clearly the most vulgar. It kind of amazes me just how many students are obsessed with singing it in unison. Do they have yell practice like a&m students where they sing this together on Friday nights?
Well, it seems the students loved "neck" as much as anyone besides maybe the football players. This brings me to my next point: If the band could have played it on the last drive against Bama, we probably would have given the D the little extra juice needed to sack the QB and basically end the game.
The students cost LSU the SEC Championship and a National Title Game appearance - therefore, the students lose on this one. They're dumb.
I'm not being serious, but it is dumb. Pretty much everbody loves something so lets keep doing something that ensures it won't exist... The sound and sight of Tiger Stadium when "neck" was played is greater than the student chant accompanying it. That's my conclusion on this one.

I was thinking this during the Bama game when the entire student section just all of a sudden seemed to yell something about Saban. When I was a student it was hard to get everyone on the same page to start the wave, how the hell did they get everyone to do the chant?

Such a delightful display for big-time potential recruits standing 40 feet away on the 10 yard line.
And also for the media and visitors in the press box, and visiting fans and administrators.
It gives such a glowing perception of LSU, and I'm sure parents of prospective students and student-athletes alike are very impressed with
Holly, Kelly, Chip, Eugene, Heather, Jethro, Billy Joe-Bob, Marlene, Wellington, Chet, etc giggling like 5 year olds to each other because they 'got away' with chanting bad words.
Ten years from now when they are working as Assistant Dept. Managers at Wal-Mart and wondering why they can't get off on Saturdays for LSU games, or why TGBFTL doesn't even play any songs except pregame, maybe they'll feel differently.
And if, in 20 years, when they have children who want to go to LSU, maybe they'll regret their juvenile hijinks when students are not allowed to sit together, much less in the NEZ. They will be scattered all over the West Upper.
What fine, upstanding students we have at Louisiana State......

It's a college football game. You should expect profanity and anything else that might come with it.
