The entire premise of this is stupid. Have y'all never played/coached on a sports team or do you just not remember it very well?
You're basing this on a coach thinking his team is worse than another team. You're basing this on players accepting it's better to lose and not have to face a team because they're better than you.
Players/Coaches don't have the luxury of being removed from the situations like fans do; they think they're better than whoever they're playing every week no matter if it's Stanford, Oregon, or the 1962 Dolphins. If somebody that's a part of that team suggested this I bet they would get cursed out the locker room.
imagine what kind of message that would send to your team? Oh so coach doesn't think we're better than Oregon?
You ALWAYS think you're the best team on the field, and you ALWAYS play to win the game you're playing. PERIOD

It's not a question of being better or not; it's a question of better match-up. If UCLA feels like they match up better with Oregon's style then they should do their best to win.
Again it's not like they just show up and not try, it's the little things like resting the guys that are a little banged up etc.
