His offer list is impressive

Raw skills

Some have commented that he "takes plays off"

Work ethic might be an issue

Anyone seen him in camp or play in High School?

He was the favorite recruit on most people's watchlist before he committed. He must not be that bad.

Good head on his shoulders.

He will be a stud for us.

LSU is high on this guy. LSU's ability to spot potential is proven and they've been after this kid for a while.

He kinda reminds me of Lavar Edwards. Not necessarily that they play the same but a lot of people saying he needs a good kick in the arse. Edwards was soft coming out of HS and work ethic was a question but he was raw. Look at what he blossomed to. He'd start at almost every school in the country if he wasn't behind Mingo/Sam.

I think Gilmore is sorta like that. Some say he needs some motivation but his physical tools are amazing. I think the big difference with Gilmore is you can see plenty of flashes of his ability and Edwards was kinda a hidden gem for our team. Gilmore is more highly touted because plenty of people have seen what he can do...

LSU scored a major recruiting victory
quote:

Gilmore gives the Tigers a potentially dominant tackle to anchor the interior of its defensive line

If there were concerns about LSU's defensive tackle depth, Greg Gilmore (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) put them to rest Thursday evening.

The Tigers needed at least six defensive linemen in this class to offset the future departures.

Gilmore has the frame to carry a lean 300 pounds. He has a thick lower body and long arms, great assets for a defensive lineman.
Some have commented that he "takes plays off"
quote:

Gilmore understands the importance of the weight room. His lower-body strength allows him to really drive his blockers off the line and play with a solid, strong base. His upper body will naturally develop, but Gilmore already is above average in this department.

Gilmore uses his hands effectively to keep opposing linemen from engaging. He is able to beat some of his opponents with pure strength and athleticism, so at times he can be somewhat lackluster here. Gilmore is fairly well-versed in his repertoire of moves. He shows the ability and know how to use the swim move, rip, bull rush and even a spin move to disengage.

Gilmore is a good athlete. When firing off the line he does so with a quick and powerful first step while maintaining good balance. He moves well laterally and shows a good 10-yard burst.

Gilmore should be able to stay on the field in most situations on the next level. He is stout at the point of attack and can handle the double team. He can stack and shed in the hole to make short stops in the running game. As a pass-rusher, Gilmore has a good first step to shoot the gap and quick hands. He also plays to the whistle.

Gilmore should develop into one of the better interior defensive lineman in college football as he progresses. An important factor when evaluating physically imposing athletes is their desire and drive. Gilmore has both. It is easy to see why he is rated as one of the top defensive lineman in the country.

The main reason Gilmore picked LSU is because he thinks playing for Brick Haley, Chief and Les gives him the best chance at the NFL. Once he gets here any bad habits will be broken. Intelligence and being coachable are musts for the LSU staff. They would not have pressed him the way they did if he did not posses these qualities.

He will have his ups and downs when he first comes in the same way every other young guy does in the SEC. It took Brockers & Logan a few years to get everything down. Even Glen Dorsey and Freak took some time to gel. I think he's going to be another really good one.

Ok Greg went to south view and I played at grays creek. I have played against Greg for three years and have lined up against him a few times. And I am on convinced that he is a big time player. Honestly I have no idea what the coaches from LSU, florida, or Oklahoma see in him. But I will admit that he is a physical specimen. He has a good speed to size ratio. But his play does not as I seen playing against him and seeing his film fit his numbers. During my junior year I was a strong side DE and he lined up against me as a TE. He never drove me off the ball or kept me from making some plays. And this passed season he only played DE, so he went head to head with with OT Patrick Roane a three star who committed to NC state. The battle between them two was one sided Greg was handled my Patrick every time they lined up against each other. So maybe les miles sees something in him that we don't.

Gilmore is what's considered a diamond in the rough...he probably wont stay at DE though not fast enough. Prolly will bump down to interior. i suspect that he wont blossom until his red shirt sophomore year. LSU strength and conditioning with coach moffit and that Louisiana Swag will rub-off on him by that time...i suspect that he will be a beast by the time he declares for the NFL
