It's amazing how fast somebody like Tedford (and Ferentz) can be the latest "hot commodity" then be on the hotseat or fired.

For Tedford, I feel like it's been a slow transition from hot commodity to the hotseat. Basically since their 2007 collapse, the AD has been behind him while the facilities were being upgraded. I didn't really understand that because he was recruiting very solid classes with crap facilities and turning out good NFL talent despite not having very high win totals.

This is the frustration of Cal fans. Since 2007, Tedford has been underachieving badly. He's had decent recruiting classes, but the team has been terrible the last three years. Off the top of my head, here are the notable players that have played for Cal since 2007:

(Keenan Allen, soon-to-be 1st or 2nd round pick)
Cameron Jordan, 1st round pick, starting DL Saints
Tyson Alualu, 1st round pick, starting DL Jaguars
Alex Mack, 1st round pick, starting center, Browns
Jahvid Best, 1st round pick, Lions (hopefully retired; too many concussions)
Mychal Kendricks, 2nd round pick, starting rookie LB, Eagles
DeSean Jackson, 2nd round pick, Eagles.
Mitchell Schwartz, 2nd round pick, starting tackle, Browns
Shane Vereen, 2nd round pick, Patriots (struggled with injuries, competing for starting job now)
Bryan Anger, 3rd round pick!, punter, Jaguars
Craig Stevens, 3rd round pick, starting tight end, Titans
Thomas DeCoud, starting safety, Falcons
Chris Conte, starting safety, da Bears
Justin Forsett, change-of-pace back, Texans

I haven't even mentioned successful Tedford guys pre-2007 like Aaron Rodgers, Marshawn Lynch, Desmond Bishop, Nnamdi Asomugha, etc.

It's this perennial underachieving with good players that is sooo taxing to the Cal fan psyche.

Oh I forgot to mention, if you look at a list of number of players in the NFL by college, Cal is usually ranked about #9 or #10. Cal produces NFL talent, but doesn't produce in Berkeley.
