There it is. Almost made it to the second page without anyone bringing this up. Glad you saw the thread.

No amount of money is worth even the chance of another 0-8 SEC record for Chizik. Plus that bum is stealing 1.16 million per win this season. He can GTFO.

I enjoy seeing you so butthurt, please continue.

Baseball was a bad example to use, I apologize. It's a sport that universally covers its own finances throughout the SEC from year to year. I think it should be kept in mind that football has to cover the expenses for sports that have no way in hell of covering their own expenses (Volleyball, Track, Swimming, Girl's Basketball, etc).
I saw a forbes list earlier this year listing the budgets of a few schools and what they keep at the end of the day after paying for all the sports that run in the red. After all the numbers are crunched, 7-10 which, like an above poster made mention of, would decrease depending on whether or not Chizik finds a job, still would be a lot of money to eat THIS year.
If you want to see the actual facts and hard #'s on this topic I'd encourage you to check out this site - Business Of College Sports
The only 2 college sports that really ever pay for themselves, i.e. take in more money than they spend, are football and men's basketball (and this isn't consistent year after year). There are a few instances where a school's women's basketball program will pay for itself, but very few.

The loss of 10,000 season tickets @ $500 each is 5 million per year..
You think 10K people wont renew their season tickets? No chance. They may not go to the games, but they arent giving up the tickets.

I understand that, but Auburn doesn't have a baseball team like LSU or Georgia that finances itself. 90-100 million split up amongst all the athletic programs makes 7-10 million a lot to eat.
Auburn's basketball team actually made money last year... not sure about baseball, but i'd bet it's close to sustaining itself.

We did not sell out for UGA or LSU this year. Some folks dropped this year. the economy stinks and we have some of the highest priced tickets in the SEC. Lots of folks will not renew if Chizik is retained. I actually think I was being conservative.

Is there not a waiting list for season tickets?

I don't believe so... the better seats have to be purchased through TUF, but every year there are season tix available w/o a TUF membership.

Just another coach in a long list of former coaches still being paid by AU.

There's not a waiting list to purchase season tickets, but there is a waiting list to purchase season tickets in certain sections. Also, everyone who purchases season tickets MUST make a minimum TUF contribution and all season ticket holders are now also TUF members. The mandatory TUF contributions range from $235-$750, depending on seat location. This contribution is in addition to the actual cost of the tickets. There are 4 levels of contributions in that range and all but the $250 seats are sold out and have a waiting list.

Man I don't know about that. This is the most disheartened I have ever seen our fan base.
I'm one that definitely won't go to another game with Chizik as a coach, but there are many like me.

Funny, coming from a bama fan, must be nice you guys finally paid Shula off this summer. Btw, who is auburn paying right now, not on staff.

No waiting list like bama, however we sell about the same amount of season tickets as bama. 60k,61k. Up until 2010 auburn actually sold several thousand more season tickets than bama.

I think you need to read my original post, buddy. I was under the impression that Chizik would get a $7.5M payday. That was cleared up by an Aubie that said it would be paid out over 3 years.
Next, under the same assumption that he would get a $7.5M payday, I thought it would only stand to reason that if a big name, "fix-it-now" coach wasn't on the radar, why write out such a large severance check? Also, you add an assumable 2.5-3.5M check to a guy like Art Bryles or Mark Hudspeth? Like I said though, my question was answered so there's no need to go e-smartass on me, skippy.

I believe last year was up to 109 million. If you do a quick google search you would find that in 2009 auburn football value was 88 million
