Saban to Bama best thing that ever happened to LSU football

I believe when Bama hired him they believed it would lead to the demise of the golden era of LSU football. What has happened instead is they created the most compelling rivalry in college football that has now taken the LSU program to new heights. Record stadium attendance, national record TV ratings and exposure the LSU program would not have been capable of.

Direct result is stadium expansion, extended national recruiting pull. Getting kids from Cali, Ohio, Illinois. We need Saban to stay at Bama for another 10 years.

Pretty sure this is the exact reason they hired him.

Interesting perspective. I do believe his Louisiana ties with High School football coaches was an definite added bonus for BAMA. But the rivalry is good for BAMA as well. Better us than Auburn.

I'm just looking forward to Bama being a damn train wreck for 5-10 years after he leaves. He'll get closer to Bear status with another ship this year. Impossible to follow what he has done there.

This might be up there with Trindon at DE as the dumbest thing I've read on the rant.

I can assure you this was NOT the reasoning. We had gone through ten years of poor coaching hires and NCAA issue. We wanted a coach that would make us competetive once again in the SEC, period.

We lucked into Saban after Rich Rod agreed to the job then backed out. It was simply chance that Saban did not enjoy his NFL experience and in fact regretted the decision. Bama fans pretty much concur had the LSU job been open at that time he would have certainly returned.

If anything it was auburn and UT that were the biggest sore for us. No offense or disrespect for LSU but I don't think LSU alone was the driving force.

Bama administrators likely didn't spend three seconds thinking about how LSU would be affected, they just wanted a proven college football coach who could bring in big money.

A Bama 'dynasty' is NEVER beneficial to LSU.

It certainly makes that game more fun.

The shadow that sabans predecessor will coach under will be 5 times what it was for miles.

No way. Saban to the NFL, but not to Bama. If he wasn't at Bama we'd be back to back NCs.

Since Saban established himself at Bama LSU has only won the west once. I'd say they accomplished their goal of hurting LSU. If that really was a goal.

Hey, just because he's paranoid doesn't mean we're NOT out to get him...

No, we would have had at least 3 more NC's.

We were beating Bama on the regular before Saban, so theoretically your post has some merit but logically its a fail.

I really don't think the impact on LSU or ties to LA recruiting had a damn thing to do with Bama hiring Saban.

Pretty simple... They were down and needed a proven program builder...Nick's agent let it be known he was not sold on the NFL and was open to discussions. Bama came up with big money... And landed him. That's pretty much the whole story.

The national exposure IS good for LSU but LSUs success is independant of Saban and Bama. I will give you that the huge national audience and tv coverage of our last 4 games has benefitted BOTH program's recruiting.... But not LSU alone.

If LSU had won on 1/9, I'd say this was absolutely true. The exposure and excitement the rivalry has generated, while still winning championships, would be huge.

Without the NC...you just can't say it's the 'best thing ever." It's a silver lining, but I'd rather have the championships.

Also, the four team playoff beginning in '14 is going to change the dynamics some. If LSU and Bama remain top 5 going forward, there will be more instances of potential rematches.

Seems to me if there were No Saban at Alabama, we would have won multiple NC's by now. And i think holding the glass trophy at the end of the season gets you coverage, Not playing Saban.
