alleman is not a good FG kicker. planning to rely on him was foolish

Come on Slo, you aren't this ignorant. Alleman is 29/38 in his career. Pretty solid right? He is also 29/34 on kicks under 50 yards. He was 4/4 on kicks in the 40-49 yard range. It doesn't get much better than that in college.

and if we missed it we give them amazing field position and they only need to go like 30 yards for the tying FG

And if we go for it and fail they are in the same spot. If we pooch punt and get a touchback then they have to go 8 more yards. Even if we pin them at the 5 it is just 20 more yards they have to go. Kicking the FG was absolutely the right call.

If you want to argue the play calling before 4th down, then fine. We had 2nd & 7 and Bama had 1 timeout left. You figure we could get at least 2 yards and make it 3rd and 5 from about the 25. That would have opened up the playbook on 3rd down. Even if we throw and its incomplete it still has a 42 yard kick. Instead, we lost 3 yards and were left with a 3rd & 10 from the 31. Throwing the ball for a 1st down in that situation is unlikely. Running the ball and hoping to get 3-4 yards was the right play call. It makes the FG easier for Alleman and runs the clock down.

the problem was that our coaches acted as if our only option was to run up the gut 3 times and kick a FG. they should have done more to try and get the first, imho. i can't stand when coaches take a fatalistic attitude in those situations
