I can understand that, but I felt the books didn't do that too much.

following Retired Admiral Ackbars plan

Well, considering most of the New Republic's command staff is...dead...they kinda have to have someone help out...
Edit: No I won't be seeing it no matter what, if they decide to screw it up, I won't be seeing it. I'm not going to ruin some of the good book series just because Disney made a movie.

Why not? They're part of the Skywalker lineage...not to mention Jaina is the one who leads to the Empire's Jedi supposedly in the Legacy series 150 years after Jedi.
I don't know nor care who Jaina is. Neither does 99% of the audience. If something in the books stands in the way of telling a better story, then frick it. Who cares. Plus I think 150 years is a little too distant in the future to make it slightly relatable to what happened in the original trilogy.

Really? I highly doubt 99% doesn't care. I like how you just assume it's in the way too, considering you have no idea who she is or what role she plays.

That would blow. I like Ackbar (would have made for a badass mascot for Ole Miss), but he was a very one note character.

I can assure you that 99%+ percent of the audience doesn't give a shite about what happened in the Star Wars novels. There are 4 billion people who have seen the Star Wars films, and I seriously doubt more than say 3 million or so have read the books. I consider myself a Star Wars nerd, but even I don't give a damn what happened in the novels. The only thing that happened for me was the original trilogy. And while you should try to be good to the fans, the fans will watch it regardless of what in the continuity they change. For starters, it would be the worst idea in the world to bring back Palpatine, as I understand they did in the books.

I think I represent the majority of the audience in this regard.

Star Wars fan fiction books aren't nearly as important or known as comic books are for superheros. For film purposes, frick'em.
The House of Mouse has zero interest in remaking the PT. It's not needed. As bad as they were, just leave them alone. They'll do Episode 7-9 and after that makes them half the money on the damn planet, they'll move on from there, but there is absolutely no need or real want for a PT remake.

Tell me that in 15-20 years. Its something that pretty much the one remake everyone wants. Guarantee they'll be talking about it by 2030.

I won't be if what they change completely screws everything up. Even if we assume you're right on that (honestly think you're wrong and that more then 3 have read it), you still can't tell me their kids are "in the way" of the story. Palpatine's clone is what is in the books, yes. No I don't think it's the best, but that was mainly a comic series. Honestly, give me an actual reason for why you should take their kids out.

So you also assume you just represent the majority as well, I get it. Everyone thinks unless it's a skywalker who cares give me a break.

I agree. Screw the continuity of anything that doesn't involve the original trilogy.

And I sense some sarcasm on the Tron post, which kicked arse for me.

yup, i didn't give one shite about Ani's mom ...did you? And that was even more directly related to the story we know than someone chick 150 years later.
IMO there has to be a known character to help the transition....everyone loved Ewan Mc as OB1(not for his performance, but the character).....he was helping us with the story....but NO ONE liked that Qui Jon Jin (who da faq is dat? Liam Nieson).....no one cared about him or was interested in him.
so IMO...yes remake the prequels with OB1, yoda,pre-darth, Padme, Palpatine, and the Droids.....forget the extra characters dookoo shite bag, the gay maul dude, and whatever other alien crap character George thought someone would give a shite about.

bullshite. If you saw the prequels, especially more than once, then you'll watch this, especially if it gets rave reviews.

How aren't they if the screenwriter has to work his way around them in the story, when he wants to tell a completely different story in the same time period? What if he isn't remotely interested in what happened to Luke after Jedi according to the book continuity and wishes to change it? Yeah I'd say that stands in the way if you're absolutely forced to do the same tales and stories that happened in the book series, or at least follow in those books' footsteps.

I highly doubt 99% doesn't care.

I won't, sorry I'm not ruining good books just because some movie came out. Sorry I'm not that shallow :)

Why would they need to work around them in the story. Why is following some of the books to a point bad? Have you even read them? You make it sound like the books were just completely God awful.

By that same logic, having Luke be Vader's son is stupid. Why is it a big deal that we focus on Luke's family, when that has been almost the entire focus of Star Wars? It seems like it works.

Way. Sorry.
Edit: Off to bed, kinda pointless anyways, Disney will do what they want regardless of what we want

Honestly, I'd bring Darth Maul back. He was just massively disappointing for such a wonderfully designed villain.
I'd take the Droids out and just replace them with clones that somewhat look like the Uruk-Hai from Lord of the Rings, and make the Clone Troopers back into regular Storm Troopers, people drafted from their homes to fight for the Republic/Empire.
