Random thoughts on Les Miles and the demise of G. Chizik

I am of the opinion that CLM does not get near the credit that he deserves. IMO he is 2nd or 3rd best college coach in the country. I don't see how anyone could argue that he isn't at least a top 10 college coach. But I still hear/read a lot of criticism for our coach. Most of CLM's supporters (including myself) point out his overall win-loss record and his head-to-head record against other top 5 coaches, particularly against Saban, who most would agree is the best in the business. While those who don't think CLM is a good coach say that he only wins because of his assistant coaches and the abundance of in-state talent that LSU gets. and that any average coach could do what CLM does with his staff and resources.
My question is: Does Gene Chizik's fall from grace and inevitable firing support the theory that Les Miles is just an average coach or does it confirm that he is much better? I think that LSU and Auburn are similar in regards to resources and talent level/recruiting and both coaches have won a natty so its a fair comparison. In other words it's an apples-to-apples comparison.
One could say that Chizik only won when he had Cam and Malzahn (ie. good assistant coaches and superior talent) and since then he has failed to maintain a winning team while CLM never had a Cam/Tebow type of QB yet has managed to maintain a top 10 program for years with various assistant coaches and inferior talent at the QB position. So this would support the idea that CLM far more than just an average college coach.
Others might argue that Chizik sucks and the only reason that he ever won anything at all was because of Cam and Malzahn which proves that any idiot can win with superior talent and great assistants which is what the idiot Les Miles does.
I think that Chizik's downfall proves how hard it is to win consistently and maintain a top 10 program in the SEC and that CLM is far better than most give him credit for and we are lucky to have him.
I know I know... TL, DR

I will say this:
Everyone says blah blah blah Miles is winning on Talent alone.
My response is always why isn't Texas kicking arse and taking names in a shitty conference?

I agree.
Miles biggest problem is that he coaches in the same division as Saban and too many LSU "fans" would rather drink Sabans ball sweat than see Miles succeed.

And Saban wins with bad assistant coaches, below average talent, and no resources? Actually, Saban the one few coaches who is not able to win without big talent advantage. History and his track records proves this.

Miles has proven that he is a top tier coach. I don't see how that is debatable. He's won in the toughest league consistently and has a NC.

I had this same conversation with my father in law the other day. He said he would have fired him after the Florida game this year. I responded with "Who would you hire then?" and he didn't know who we should get. I said well Miles is a top 5 coach in the country, recruits well, players like him, has a high winning percentage, hires great assistant coaches for the most part etc.
Until Miles starts losing 3-6 games consistently if ever then that would be the time to think about changing coaches.
He is stubborn but he wins the vast majority of his games so I do not get why people jump off the deep end with him. He isn't perfect and make some questionable calls but he has kept us very competitive with other top programs in the country.

1)they want saban
2)Tenn., AU, USC, Texas, Michigan, Notre Dame (for the exception of this year) miami, florida st., are all proof that an average coach with resources can't make their programs top 10/elite.
If you had to rate the top 10 programs since 2000
it would have to go something like this.
1)lsu (played for three and won two)
2)Florida (played for two and won two)
3)bama (played for two and won two)
4)ohio st. (won one, played for two others)
5)oklahoma (won one, played for 4)
6)texas (played for two n.c. won one)
7)Auburn (tommys undefeated year and chix n.c.)
8)USC (won one n.c.)
9)Oregon (played for one, been top 10 most years)
10)boise state (been top 10 most years)
now look at the coaching changes. zook took over from stev s. wasn't able to maintain it. urban got it back, muschamp is still a mystery)
saban to miles. lsu hasn't missed a beat
shula to saban. improvement
tressel to urban still a mystery
au tubbs to chiz, looks to be bad
carol to kiffen, not quite as good.
boise- hawkins to peterson improvement

Chizik sucks so much arse. Always has.
I will say this about Les: If Les had Cam Newton as his QB our offense would look very similar to what we have right now.
But a few true believers will keep saying "one day, when we get a good QB..."
This is Les' offense. It ain't changing.
