Does anyone know where to get a good heavy fire pit, preferably one with a cooking grate that swings around on the top?

Probably going to have to make it with the cooker. Depending on how big you want, a sugar kettle reproduction works great, or the rim off of a combine is also first rate.

Check Craig's list usually have guys selling them that are heavy duty/homemade ones.

I actually saw one at Sam's Club the other day that had a reasonably heavy fire box on it. Much thicker metal than most of the ones I've seen in retail stores. I don't remember the price. It wasn't very decorative, had a black iron ring around the outer edge for propping your feet on, and it had the cooking grate that you're looking for.
I'm sure a homemade one would be stronger, but ....

I know an ag teacher (two actually) who made these for $350.00. Got me one two years ago without the saints/LSU. I had the initial of my last name.
