Do i pay Arkansas state income tax? Anything else I should be looking at as far as being employed in one state, yet living in another. I am guessing my group insurance will not cross state lines either.? thanks

You pay state income taxes for the state you reside in. Period.
By group insurance are you talking about health insurance? If you have to go to a doctor or hospital you are covered under the terms of your insurance policy.

Both states are going to want it and depending on the arrangement(s) it could be a little hairy. For instance, pro athletes pay income taxes all over the country, depending on where they play games. Also, if you're set up a per diem policy where a big chunk is federal tax free, it can get a lot more complicated quickly if you start trying to fight Arkansas on their claim.

You pay state tax where you work. If your home state has income tax they will give you a credit. if your home state does not, you still pay where you work. You only can pay it once thank god lol.

Sorry, but this is totally false. Arkansas will require you to file a nonresident income tax return and pay tax. All states with an income tax require nonresident workers to file and pay tax.
Actually, I would think your employer would be required to withhold Arkansas income tax from your wages.

I live in Alabama and work in Georgia. I have Georgia tax withheld from my check. I have no income in Alabama and I have never had to pay them anything. Of course I still have to file a return with them but I've never had to pay. I only pay Georgia taxes.
Hope that helps. I'm sure it will be pretty similar for you.

Arkansas will tax you as a non-resident on your income from Arkansas sources. Tennessee will tax you as a resident on your income from all sources, except Tennessee does not have an individual income tax. In order to avoid double taxation, Tennessee would give you a credit for the taxes paid to Arkansas. But since Tennessee does not have an income tax, there is no credit.
The end result is that you will have to pay Arkansas income tax on the wages you earn from working in Arkansas. Your employer will have to withhold the Arkansas income tax from your wages whether you like it or not.

Poodle,
Does it depend on the state?
I used to work in Maryland for a Maryland company and live in Virginia. All my state withholdings were for Virginia. Nothing, nada, zilch in Maryland.
Thanks.

You should always pay taxes in the state where the work was done. I used to work for a firm where I had clients in both MS and LA. I had a W-2 for each state. I got credit on my LA income tax for MS taxes paid just as everyone else said.
Does maryland not have state income tax?

They do but so does Virginia.
Apologies for giving incorrect information earlier. I made a presumption based on my experience in Maryland and Virginia.

I just moved to Houston from Baton Rouge in may and have not switched my residency yet. Would I have to still pay La income tax since Tx doesn't have one? 100% of income is from
Tx

After moving to Baton Rouge and establishing Louisiana residency, you owe Louisiana income tax on all income from whatever sources. You will need to file as a part-year resident. You can exclude the income you earned prior to establishing Louisiana residency.

I no longer live in BR. I moved out of the state so my situation is opposite of that.

Maryland, D.C., and Virginia have a pact that they only tax their residents where a worker lives in one of the three jurisdictions.
I believe Kentucky and Ohio have a similar arrangement as many Kentuckians work in and around Cincy.
