What is the SB's feelings about Dempsey's recent NT play?

Recently, Deuce hasn't met my admittedly lofty expectations. He just seems careless sometimes. Case in point last night and the games against Jamaica. He takes lazy, long touches and gives the ball away cheaply in ways that I feel he doesn't do when playing in England. Thoughts?

Few players play as well or better for their country than they do for their club.

Blame his club situation and our opponents.
I agree with you, but he is the type of player who deserves our full benefit of the doubt.
ETA: Wouldn't be surprised if he goes off on Tuesday. Michael Bradley opens a lot of things up, and they'll be playing on an actual field, one conducive to Deuce playing well.

To an extent, yes. He hasn't played as well for the USMNT in the past few matches as he has in previous ones. My point was that it's a bit unfair to compare him to his form with his club team.

the problem with national team play is these guys aren't practicing everyday with each other

I'm glad this thread was created bc I thought ab posting this, I'm as a Deuce fan as anyone but more often than not he looks lazy, uninterested, and sometimes unhappy to be out there. Last night it was encouraging to see him ripping into Zusi for the poor crosses bc he showed some passion and some care and him dropping deep into the midfield showed some desire for the ball.

He always looks lazy until he challenges for the ball and almost murders someone. He's just one of those players: either makes things look effortless or looks lazy, depending upon how well he's playing. It's always pretty obvious that he cares. He has been dropping deep consistently while we've been having problems.

IMO on pitch leadership has been a big problem with the USMNT.

We can't all be like Antigua & Barbuda.

Or Spain, for the most part.

Dempsey is also marked more closely while on national duty, than he would be during a regular game for Fulham or Spuds; teams with more talented players.
Every touch, pass and shot is much more magnified for him, more than any other US players at this point, even Donovan isn't seen as the go-to attacking linchpin when he's healthy.

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner.

The main excuse for JK in my head is that Landon and Clint are still two of our very best, and they haven't done anything for him.

Clint was a leader last night. Important things which don't show up on the scoresheet on an individual basis. He was balls out defending at the end.

But leadership comes in spurts for the USMNT. Boca shows leadership on the backline, but as far as the midfield....no one really steps up.
Donovan should be captain. However, he has never stepped up. Helluva a player, but not a leader.
Dempsey is sorta the same way. He is everyone's friend and only shows leadership in spurts.
Bradley is still a hot head. Can't be doing those type of things, like he did last night.
Also, there really isn't any continuity in our midfield either. IMO. We move so many players in n out. It's another thing that hurts us.
We still havent had a solid roster. It's a crap shoot every game. I understand you have to play to your advantages but frick.
With Edu, Beckerman, Bradley, Dempsey, Williams, Jones, Torres, etc. etc. No wonder passing sucks from time to time. What do you expect?

Last night's match was difficult to watch, and gauge, but I think Clint was a leader. My humble opinion.

Bradley should be given the captains armband.
Not only is he the composer on the pitch but he's the future. I think it'll calm him down some as well
