I'm not a mechanical hater, I've shot both spitfires and meat seekers. With that said, there have been instances where Rages failed to open, broke blades on impact with ribs, opened at release, opened in the quiver, etc. these are variables that, for the most part, don't exist with a fixed head.
bingo.

I started bow hunting 3 years ago. Last year I killed a basket rack 8. He was something I would have never shot with a rifle but felt like it was a huge accomplishment with a bow. Shot at my second deer yesterday and im still so discouraged over making a bad shot and losing her that I dont want to bow hunt any more for fear of doing it again

It happens man, it has happened to every bow hunter. Now you know what shot and angle you need to make from here on out.

You replace the blades on any head after a shot anyway

Doesn't have to happen to you in order for it to be a reality. shite happens when you climbing trees and getting your shite together and getting ready to shoot, last thing i need to be worried about is a mechanical fricking broadhead that needs to be just right.

I would hope if you bump or knock your equipment around on the way up the tree you would look it all over before attempting a shot...and not just worry about the arrow head itself.

I have heard the nightmares of them " not opening" . I suspect most of the stories are of poorly placed shots, and of no fault of the mechanical head.
The single most important facet of a head/ kill shot is shot placement and sharpness, imo.
I personally have never shot expandable. I just choose to have the piece of mind that says, if a deer got away, it is 100% my fault. I dont even want to have the opportunity to blame a strange hit or track job on a mechanical head.
However, i dont judge people who use mechanicals...

They still haven't come out with one that doesn't depend on the guy holding the bow
