Not to drop this grenade in here again, but...

This editorial from The Observer on Terry/Cole/FA is too good and thought-provoking to not share. *steps away from the carnage that will ensue*

I read it last night. Nothing new really.

You are a true hipster

You're going to need riot gear for this thread.

Yeah probably. Might as well put my full opinion out there. Terry's "defense" was always absurd and not even really a defense. You don't get a pass to say [racial slur] if you've been accused by someone of using [racial slur]. It looks terrible that he got less games than Suarez. a fine of a week or so's wages is meaningless. Though I questioned whether Suarez knew what he was saying wad offensive based off his time spent in Europe, the cultural issue was a mitigating factor. I'm sure the difference had more to do with Terry's representation compared to Liverpool's bungling of the situation, but it's still terrible.
Very interested to see what kind of punishment Cole gets for his tweet and if Chelsea do anything more with Terry.

Um, no. It's already absurd. Why would they even think about doing anything more?

Because Terry has received all the punishment he will from 3rd parties so the time to stand behind your player for solidarity's sake has ended. Your club can't, to name a recent example, complain of racist abuse on Twitter to Mikel while they stay silent on the issue of Terry. At the very least they should condemn what he said, though they should do more.

What he said isn't even racist and only the FA or Michelle Obama would say otherwise.

So throwing the word "black" in the middle of "f'ing c--t" doesn't change anything?

Y'all are wasting your time on Randy "macho Troll" Savage.

How about the fact that it's over and ended a long time ago? No one was ever harmed by his comment. Anyone that spends their time consumed by something like this is a myopic simpleton. I wish people would just let it go.

Pretty funny that you throw around the word myopic considering you're seeing this issue in the most narrow way possible.
Posted on 10/7/12 at 5:52 pm to Friend of OBUDan
There is one way to see the issue. Any other attempt to see it is just being a melodramatic race baiter.
*And this is not because it's John Terry. I hate Luis Suarez probably more than any other player in the world and think what happened to him was even more ridiculous.

I wasn't really calling you narrow-minded.
My main complaint is that people are bitching about this way longer than they should, and that, in and of itself, is a bigger problem than what he said. The man was put on trial in the real court system, not just the cowboys and indians of FA. And now he as to sit out 4 games. Put the damn issue to bed. I know they are journalists, but is there nothing else to write about?
But let's face it, most fans are piling it on Terry and Suarez because they are two of the most hated players in the league.

I think you're confused. What Terry said was melodramatic race baiting.

The decision came down Friday. Seems still within the realm of acceptable discussion period. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the independent commission set up for this ripped Terry, Cole, and the FA. I think all are acceptable bits of fodder for criticism, and I think Chelsea should be urged to do something further regarding both Terry and Cole. It also doesn't look very good that this independent commission pretty much said Chelsea, as a club, were complicit in Cole's lie.
Racism continues to be an issue and not just in football. We've all seen what Terry said in the Youtube video. There has to be consistency to crack down on it. As I said, Chelsea can't be silent on this issue then go after someone who tweets the same thing to Mikel after he has a bad performance.
