re: Good low recoil rifle for 8 year old to grow into?

My father bought a .257 for my sister and I when we were kids. He got the stock cut down for us. That rifle has killed the most animals than any other rifle we own. My dad uses it now because he broke his back last year when he fell from the deer stand. He said the 30-06 kicked too much.
