I'd more than likely go with Scream as the best. I think The Ring has been the most influential though.

Would yall agree that more mental stuff is "scarier" than flat out gruesome/gross right?

And as far as best horror goes that would simply mean the best movie overall right? Plot, Acting, Killing scenes, etc.. not necessarily whether or not it was the scariest? Or maybe the best should be the scariest? I don't know the rules here..

I don't think Let the right one in was as good as advertised. Scream was a classic and deserves to be up there. I haven't seen enough horror to know tho.

Has anyone seen the movie Inside?

Insidious, yeah the last part wasn't the best, but with all horror flicks made that are crap, this one was pretty legit.

I liked the strangers, too.

I don't get all the love for The Ring. The only part that was scary...........

SPOILERS

was when they opened the closet to show the dead chick's face. The rest was pretty meh for me.

Maybe Dawn of the dead. Everything else has already been said. My personal favorite last 20 years was silent hill

The Ring is my vote for last 20 years.

If we could go farther back...

Alien
Jaws
Poltergeist

i thought scream was very well done.
The ring was just ok for me. I just really couldn't get on board with the premise.
I'm hoping sinister will live up to this critics review
