I've always said Unitas was the GOAT.

Me too. He was also pure class.

My best (and only) CSB is a Unitas story. We had just finished up a game and was in the storage room washing off the coolers with the door open at about midnight. Barefoot, pants rolled up to my knees, and this older gentlemen comes to the door just to chit chat. Asked how we were doing, how school was, and if there was anything we needed. And you could tell he was genuine about it and just seemed like a really nice old guy. It was about halfway through the conversation that it dawned on me who it was. Eventually he made a comment that he wasn't as young as he used to be and up past his bedtime then left. He thanked us for all we did for the team (also made a quip about how he would've never made it without his trainers). Shook all of our hands on the way out of the door. The next day when we were working with the players at Sunday check in, we had lunch delivered from a local catering company. Bill was footed by Johnny U himself with a note thanking us again for all our hard work.

Probably one of the handful of times I've been legitimately star struck. And of all the sports celebs I met while a trainer, he was absolutely the most humble and down to earth.

Great story. Thanks for sharing.

And to all others whos shared #19 memories, thanks for posting.

He was just as good or better off the field as he was on.

And unfortunately I'm old enough to remember seeing #19 live in those famous high tops.
