Drew Brees' Contract and what it means for THIS YEAR

I keep seeing the same bullshite posted over and over about Drew's contract killing the Saints this season. We have yet to really see an impact for Drew Brees' contract.
For those blaming the loss on Nicks and Meachem on Brees:
We weren't going to pay Nicks the most money in NFL history for a guard while having the 2nd highest paid guard already on the roster (and having Grubbs in free agency). We couldn't get in a bidding war with Tampa Bay's unlimited cap space. We weren't going to pay Meachem because of his injury issues and the amount of money he was asking.
On defense:
We added Lofton and Bunkley. Those are 2 great additions on paper. We also added Hawthorne as another good addition.
We decided to part ways with Tracy Porter. We had plenty of cap room to sign him, but decided it wasn't worth it. We have $8 million in cap space for this season, and he signed for 1 year, $4 million
Future Implications:
The salary cap is set to drastically increase in 2014 with the new NFL TV deal. The $8 million we have saved this year actually rolls over into the 2013 cap. His contract reflects the new TV deal and the rollover. Aaron Rodgers will get a larger contract, and it is comparable to Peyton's who is coming off a major injury
Yall need to do some research before spouting off the same tired crap over and over again. Drew's contract should still allow us to be a contender for the remainder of his tenure with Sean Payton

Some people (not me) think that his actual holdout is affecting the team negatively, not the amount in the contract.

then they should have an issue with the front office for not getting the deal done the previous season. Brees was completely upfront with what he wanted (and he got it)

Didnt Porter sign before Drews deal was complete? Meaning the cap room wasnt available at the time.

Neither the holdout or the amount is affecting them at all. The Saints are just missing their leader with a headset and have not played well on defense when it matters. By no means is this season over there is a lot of football left and yes 0-3 is hard to overcome but it has been and can be done. This team is too talented and the system is too well implemented for them to totally implode. I will give up on the season when I know for certain they have been eliminated from the playoffs. WHO DAT!

I wish Blues would start an Ingram thread.
have been laying low cuz of the influx of tards
as bait was saying, if ya notice, most are just venting without any real reasoning to back it up. Just scan the threads, 75% are from posters never or hardly ever seen around here. Most just dump some shite and don't even follow up or respond.

The issue is the defense more than anything else. The Saints have looked like this before even with Payton here, especially Brees. He has looked down right Favre like with throws and INT's at times. People like to use Payton as the reason we are struggling but the defense is the main reason, that and called back TD's

You know, that seems like a good idea.
I'm noticing a lot of regulars doing so.
And yet, I can't.

I think drew is his own biggest critic. He's putting a tremendous amt of pressure on himself.
Some lady posted a letter on WDSU facebook page that said it really well. We don't need Drew to be Sean Payton, we need drew to be drew. He needs to quit trying to play like a $100 million quarterback and realize he was already doing so.

Fanfrickin'tastic post!!!
Not to mention that Grubbs is not the problem on the offensive line and we are saving a ton of money to hopefully add some OLB, DE and OTs next year.

It's not even worth telling the random tards to shutup or that they are wrong.

As for you, this is one of the best posts the last couple weeks. Thanks. And i agree about the core of offseason posters. Some people just get burnt out. I on the other hand have a crack addiction. Is there TDA?

"we need drew to be drew. He needs to quit trying to play like a $100 million quarterback and realize he was already doing so."
Drew being Drew means a lot of INT's. Other than 2009 and last year he has regularly made boneheaded plays and even those years he had his moments. The worse the defense is the more he is going to press. I don't think it has anything to do with his contract other than not shoping up until training camp.

He is one of the best QB's in NFL history at not throwing interceptions in the playoffs.
And he really didn't throw that many ints last year or in 2006. So he's thrown a lot of interceptions in 2010 (torn MCL that he played through) and 2007 and 2008 (when our surrounding talent sucked and we had no running game)
Drew had ZERO fumbles last year. That is incredible for a QB
Over the last 7 games last season, he threw 25 touchdowns to 2 interceptions. The difference was that the oline upped their protection and we ran the ball. He's shown with a running game he won't throw picks
