In the execution, Brandon was forced to watch his father being burned alive in his armor, suspended from above by the same rope around his neck via pulley. The closer he moved to his father, the closer Lord Rickard was lowered to the flames. It took all Brandon's strength to hold his father as high as he could...
Could you imagine?
and remember...Jaime and Barriston were among those present who stood and watched.

so you don't want to watch it then?
That's just crazy talk. The new Gregor blows, but that doesn't stop me.

It is Brandon surprisingly. They just miscast the frick out of him.
quote:
Brandon was in appearance and character very different from Eddard.[1] He was rather hot-blooded, something his younger brother described as coming from the wolfblood. He shared this trait with his sister.[2] Brandon was tall and handsome, and was an excellent swordsman and jouster.

May be part of the reason they cut it. They may have assumed, correctly I might add, that it would just confuse the frick out of the viewers. Especially the ones who hadn't read the books.

Though that looks nothing like how they described Brandon. Too old and too much like Ned IMO.
As long as I've had these pics, I've always thought that huge shnozz is definitely not Bean...but today I wonder. Maybe part of the reason it was cut is because it IS Bean as Brandon, (which is friggen bizarre) OR
Because the scene was cut, and these stills are all that are left, HBO just filled in the blanks. Could this have been intended as a nightmare sequence where Ned is in Brandon's shoes suffering his pain...?
ETA: Naaahhhh. That would REALLY confuse the shite out of non-readers.
EETA: Cotton - you hit it.
This may have been a nightmare, and waaayyy too confusing to put Ned in it. You would need a narrator to set up the fact that Ned wasn't really there or some other Deus ex machina. No wonder it was cut.

Maybe part of the reason it was cut is because it IS Bean as Ned. maybe in an effort to streamline, they eliminate the Brandon role and replace him with Ned only with him surviving
retarded but i wouldn't put it past them

According to Lady Dustin, this is true.

And hot-blooded, for sure.
He went flying off to King's Landing all half- cocked and brought much more grief to the Starks. In fact, I think Lyanna sent a raven explaining what was the real deal with Rhaegar, and Brandon either read it as Rhaegar's words in her writing (ala Cersei/Sansa's letter to Rob much later) OR
he was miffed at her rejection of the Storm Lord of Dragonstone/ ramifications for soiling the Stark name.
I think Brandon was the only one who saw Lyanna's letter, and made up the kidnapping himself to protect the family name.

Damn, I don't remember any of this shite...
of course, it was almost 15 years ago that I read the first book, so maybe it is time to start re-reading them. lol
Kind of lost the enthusiasm for the series after GRRM decided to start taking 10 years to pen 2 books , after only taking 6 to write the first 3!
Never a good sign when the writer himself seems to be losing interest.

Same here. I started reading these books in like 99. I still love the TV Series and am pumped about it. I'm lukewarm on the books right now. I barely finished DwD to be honest.

Complete opposite for me. I watch the series and enjoy it, but it can't begin to touch the books. It is frustrating as all hell though to wait so long for something you are interested in.

Did you put that in crackpot? Really good theory IMO. Rickard Stark must not have been too bright. He let his son confront someone known as the mad king like he was Tytos Lannister. Should have ordered him to stay in Winterfell.

I've read in several places that the writers have stated they WILL NOT include flashbacks on the show...
I don't see how they can tell Cersei's backstory without flashbacks. It just seems foolish not to include the scene that really explains Cersei's actions throughout the series.

Bumping for jrod. I didn't even know this thread was out there.
Would've loved to have seen that cut scene with Brandon.
And love the illustrations in the OP. Gorgeous comic art.

Good idea, doing so now...
Don't be too hard on Rickard. I don't think he knew what was going on till after Brandon was already on his way to King's Landing...
