Really? With all 5,000 fans in attendence with bags over their heads?
quote:no, I don't know what you mean
The only thing that would have made the Superdome intimidating in the pre-Brees days was if the opposing players confused the bags on the heads of our fans with another head covering....know what I mean?

the Saints have only had 1 season in their history where a blackout occurred.
First thing...normally teams worry about have a GAME blacked out, not an entire season. so to have an entire season blacked out is pretty pathetic.
Secondly, just because the tickets were sold don't mean they were used.

interesting post because i have never heard anything about pro games or pro stadiums being loud except for playoff games. But you hear about college stadiums all the time esp LSU and the SEC. Saints games on tv do not seem anywhere near the level of Tiger Stadium but i have not been in person to a Saints game in years. I would think the 16,000 students and extra 20,000 seats would make this a no brainer.

the acoustics, shape, surrounding topography, etc all play a factor into how loud the noise is. in TS, the sound can go straight out the top of the stadium. the dome gets louder because all of that sound gets trapped inside

Monday night v the Falcons post Katrina was pretty loud but the depth and quantity coming out at TS tops even the loudest moments at the dome. I've been present for almost every significant moment in the dome. TS just can't be beat IMO

Nope.....noob.
LSU-UGA 03 wasn't even that loud. They only thing that made that game impressive was the response of the fans to the game action. The fans never did completely quiet down even when UGA made great plays or scored. But the overall, top end of the noise level that was created during that game does not even come close to one of the loudest game in Tiger Stadium.
Huh? You said the only thing that made that game impressive was the response to the game action? Isn't that what people usually get excited about -what's happening on the field? That game was loud from start to finish. When Skylar Green caught that TD closing in on a minute to play, that was one of the loudest moments I've ever heard. Mark Richt said the loudest he's ever heard a stadium in his life was after Georgia scored the 90+ yard TD and LSU fans started the LSU chant. I think that's impressive.
Both places can get extremely loud. I was at the NFC Championship Game, Saturday night playoff game last year, etc., in the Dome. They were seriously rocking. Saints fans get loud and the sound has nowhere to go. The Dome probably is louder on average because the Saints play teams that can beat them every week. LSU fans tend to only get up for the big opponents. But when the big opponents do roll in...
The Florida and Auburn games in 97 under DiNardo were unbelievably loud. We lost the Auburn game even though Cecil had like 230+ yards rushing, but everyone I know remembers how loud that game was. The Cedric Donaldson int. that he took to the house against Florida stands out to me as deafening.
Under Saban, the Georgia game, Mississippi St. overtime game and Tennessee (Death Valley is dead game) were ridiculous the whole game. That Tennessee game had a little something extra.
Under Miles, the Florida win with the USC score announcement during the game was crazy. The Byrd TD against Auburn with one second was pretty damn loud too.

I bring my decibel reader to games now. Whenever I do readings, Tiger Stadium has averaged around 102-104 normally with a peak of 115 so far this year vs Washington.
The Saints peaked at 114 vs Washington on the punt block and averaged around 98-100 during the game.
Last year during my readings, Superdome peak was 121 and Tiger Stadium was 120.
Both are pretty close, but I think this year Tiger Stadium may have the slight edge. We may be flirting with 130 against Bama.

Tiger Stadium vs. The Superdome
Superdome playoff game = 8.75 loudness
Tiger Stadium vs Bama = 9.75 loudness
Been to both. Tiger Stadium in the early 2000's was insane.

You must not have been in the dome for Steve Gleason's blocked punt against the Falcons. I can't imagine TS ever being that loud.
2003 Georgia
1997 Florida
2007 Florida
Those 3 could never be toped. Ever ran on the filed in the Superdome. I don't think so

Saints fans leave early and complain about other fans standing up.

So the highest recorded decibel level at the Superdome is 119. The highest recorded decibel level at TS has been 125-130. Tiger Stadium wins on the empirical evidence. All of the rest comprises anecdotal accounts heavily influenced by emotional bias, etc.
/thread. Though I'm sure some will be like fat white old republicans and not care what fact and evidence you have.

I was at Tiger Stadium for the 2007 Florida game. I also was at the Superdome for the NFC championship.
Superdome is louder.

I guess posters are forgetting than TS Is known all over the world as one of the loudest venues. The dome, not so much.

The dome. It gets utterly ridiculous in there for big games.
