Benson's silence through all this leads me to believe he's agreed to offer up his organization to the league as a sacrificial lamb for the impending class action lawsuits. However, Goodell has butchered the entire task. At some point, I can't help but think the owners get together and fire Goodell to make him the sacrificial lamb to save face for the NFL. This is getting out of hand and i don't see how Vilma could lose if this gets pushed through Federal Court.

Save what face? Most fans either don't care or are against the Saints on this one. Some reporters may question how hard Goodell has been on the players but I haven't seen much Free Sean Payton sentiment at all in the media. It's mostly that the players shouldn't be punished as much as the coaches, not that the coaches/FO are innocent. They may think the punishments are too harsh, but they don't think the league is wrong.

Vilma has to prove that Goodell intended to lie. Goodell is basing his claims on the claims of coaches at the meeting in question, so he's not lying, he's repeating evidence he believes to be true. Vilma won't win a thing unless he finds smoking gun evidence that Goodell fabricated it all and he won't find that because most people think if it's fabricated that Cerullo was the one that made it up because he was disgruntled, not because the NFL asked him to.

I hate to keep being the bearer of bad news in these threads, but the outcome to this has been decided before it began.

I think the lamb here will be Williams. He can't admit purgery and Goodell can claim he just believed what he was told.

I want to know how Cerullo's statement contradicts Williams' and whether that points toward one or the other being false.
