Today just had too much weight on the players

Everyone (this mon included) kept saying that with the anger from the offseason and energy in the Dome there would be no way in hell that we would lose this one. I feel like the players had too much pressure to just demolish a rookie QB. A swift recovery vs Carolina is in order.

Agreed. Kind of what I was getting at in a thread I started about home field advantage not being as affective as you might think. You can say " oh man they'll never come in here and beat us after this whole offseason we've been through." or even better "oh man, LSU is playing in NOLA for the NC? No way we lose that game." it just doesn't work like that.

I could except that if they would have seemed to have played with anger and passion out there, but they were out there as if they could give two shits for the first 3 quarters. The arse whipping they got handed wasn't a result of undisciplined play from too much emotion, but flat out garbage effort. We always see Payton, Brees, etc. getting on each other when they make mistakes because they strive to be perfect. The most anger I saw from this team today was Brees looking sad staring at the ground while sitting on the sidelines. This team played with no emotion today and then started feeling sorry for itself for its situation when things went wrong when in the past they held each other accountable. Hopefully they find that accountability back and don't feel sorry for themselves all season.

This is what Bill Simmons said on the Friday edition of PTI. And that the overturned suspensions were one more distraction.

dafuq? pressure seemed pretty high the 1st home game after katrina. that worked out well.
these are professionals who get paid millions. the insane amount of excuses you people drum up are comical.
they got their arse handed to them. plain and motherfrickin simple

I don't really agree with the premise of this post.
We lost for very tangible reasons today. There were serious problems on the OL that were not addressed at any point in the game. Defensively, we have a lot of problems in coverage. A seasoned RG3 would have tore us up even more. There were guys running free as a general rule today.

I don't think it was the pressure.
We got out coached/out played. This is the area where I thought we'd really miss CSP.
