It Does cost $100, and a $300 monitor is very high grade. I got a 1920x1080 21.5" AOC monitor for $145 and it is great
ETA: i also bought an asus cm6730 from best buy, and then upgraded the video card when i got some more cash later. So that is also an option for you. Its a very fast computer
