Saw this baby at Cabelas earlier today and talked about it for 30 min with some huge old man who had one on his hip. I really like the feel with the 3 grip sizes and love the style. Thought it felt better in my hand than the similar polymer Glock and XD.

It is. You will enjoy it. I rarely hear bad things about M&Ps. You should get an HK though :jump1:

2nd favorite polymer behind the XDM. My cousin has the M&P in .40 and .45 (RPSO department issued). At first glance I thought they were too bulky. But after holding them my mind changed immediately. Awesome guns.

Very good choice. That's one of the most reliable .40's you could buy. It's usually available with and without an external safety -- most folks who carry that gun for SD opt for the "non-safety" version.

The M&P platform was originally designed for the .40 S&W (unlike other makes that were designed around the 9mm and then modified to shoot the .40).

Yeah there is also no size difference b/w the two for this gun. Guy was explaining to me how the bore axis is lower than others, resulting in less muzzle flip and more recoil absorbed straight back by the gun and into your hand/arm.

Not a 1911. Here's the P30 in .40.

Best polymer gun you can buy

No dude it feels like a toy. 22.8oz. Ridiculously accurate, and best ergos ever.

ETA: It's about the size of a Glock 19 for reference

^^^^^This guy knows what's up. This is literally exactly what I was going to say. Rather than design for 9mm and then build up for a larger caliber, they started big and then downsized for 9mm.

As others have said, the ergonomics are outstanding. I've shot all 3 calibers of the M&P (well, I guess I haven't shot .357 Sig) and all shot very very well.

I had a friend who wanted one with a thumb safety in 9mm and we couldn't find one. But, we found one with a thumb safety in .45 (and with a tan frame like yours) and he absolutely loves it. It's a great shooter.

Pull the trigger (punny?) and you'll be satisfied.

EDIT: If you think you have the money for an HK, it's all fine and dandy, but the M&P is a bargain. Also, the HK is a hammer-fired gun with a DA/SA trigger pull as opposed to the striker-fired trigger of the M&P. It's like comparing apples to potatoes. They're a good bit different.

I'm pretty sure the Glock 23 is the same as a 19 except for caliber; the HK is pretty comparable to the compact Glock
